K-State to Compete at Pair of Meets in Arizona this Weekend

MANHATTAN, Kansas – The Kansas State men's and women's track and field teams will continue their 2019 outdoor campaign this weekend by competing in a pair of meets in Arizona, including the Jim Click Combined Events in Tucson, Arizona on April 4-5 and the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Arizona on April 5-6.
 
K-State will kick off the weekend in the Grand Canyon State on Thursday at the Jim Click Combined Events in Tucson, where senior Morgan Coffman and juniors Ariel Okorie and Lauren Taubert will make their season debuts in the women's heptathlon, while senior Simone Fassina will make his season decathlon debut. The Jim Click Combined Events begins at 2:00 p.m. CT on Thursday, before concluding the final day of competition on Friday.
 
Okorie and Taubert are coming off a pair of strong performances to start the season in the 100-meter hurdles, with Taubert setting a personal best of 13.70in the event at the Texas Relays a week ago. At the TCU Invitational on March 16, Okorie snagged a second-place finish in the same event, running a 13.62 (1.9).
 
At the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, K-State will compete in a variety of events on and off the track, with field events kicking off on Friday at 2:00 p.m. CT, followed by track events beginning at 9:00 p.m. CT. The Wildcats will return to action at the Sun Angel Classic on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. CT. The Sun Angel Classic will stream live on FloTrack, beginning at 2:00 p.m. CT on Friday.
 
Several Wildcats will make their season debuts in their respective events at the Sun Angel Classic, including 2018 NCAA Champion in the men's high jump, Tejaswin Shankar. Shankar enters the competition with a career-best and India National record 2.29m/7-06 set at the Texas Tech Shootout a season ago.
 
In the women's 400-meter hurdles, senior Ranae McKenzie looks to pick up where she left off a season ago, where she won the Big 12 Outdoor title in the event by running a 56.06. McKenzie went on to earn first team All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships by placing fifth overall.

A week ago at the Texas Relays, the Wildcats recorded several top performances, including an NCAA leading 6.60m/21-08 (2.4) jump by junior Taishia Pryce in the women's long jump, winning her the event. Pryce's jump also landed her sixth in the world this year.
 

 
The K-State women are coming off back-to-back Big 12 Outdoor titles, including scoring a program-best 135 points at the meet a season ago. The women garnered a No. 16 spot in the week one USTFCCCA rankings released on Monday, marking their 19th consecutive week ranked in the top-25.
 
Following the Wildcats' weekend in Arizona, K-State will send a group to compete at the Triton Invitational on April 11-13 in San Diego, California, while another group will travel to Wichita, Kansas to compete at the KT Woodman Classic on April 13.
