Apr 05, 2019 | Volleyball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State volleyball continues its spring competition schedule on Saturday, as it and UMKC will co-host a 12-team spring tournament at the Swinney Recreation Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
With competition beginning at 9:30 a.m., K-State will be one of 12 teams in action across four courts. The Wildcats will be split into two teams (Purple and White) and compete against Arkansas, Creighton, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Rockhurst, South Dakota and UMKC.
Other teams participating in the event include Bradley, Kansas, Omaha and Wichita State. Matches will consist of two sets to 25 points and fans can attend the event free of charge.
The Cats will bring a roster of 17 athletes, featuring three who will be entering their senior seasons at K-State in setter Sarah Dixon, middle blocker Elle Sandbothe and defensive specialist/libero Mckenzi Weber.
Four freshmen, Teana Adams-Kaonohi, Anna Dixon, Faith Hammontree and Loren Hinkle, will also be competing after joining the K-State program at the start of the spring semester.
The Cats retain nine letterwinners and four redshirt freshmen from a year ago, including AVCA All-America Honorable Mention selections in redshirt senior Sarah Dixon and sophomore Gloria Mutiri. Sandbothe was an All-Big 12 Second Team selection in 2018.
Incoming freshmen Adams-Kaonohi and Anna Dixon, along with junior Brynn Carlson and Mutiri were all selected to the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team-Anaheim roster earlier this month. The quartet will train June 23-29 at the American Sports Center in Anaheim, California. K-State's four selections led all Division I programs.
