MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State freshman Anna Dixon was one of 20 players selected to USA Volleyball's 2019 Women's Junior National Training Team (WJNTT), the organization announced.
Dixon, a 6-foot-3 outside hitter out of Louisburg (Kansas) High School, was one of six outside hitters to earn an invitation. The WJNTT athletes will compete for one of 12 roster spots on the U.S. Women's Junior National Team (WJNT) that will participate in the 2019 FIVB Women's U20 World Championship July 12-21 in Leon Guanajuato & Aguascalientes, Mexico.
The WJNTT will hold a training camp July 6-12 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The final selections for the WJNT will be made immediately before leaving for the World Championships.
In April, Dixon was chosen to USA Volleyball's U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team-Anaheim roster along with teammates Teana Adams-Kaonohi, Brynn Carlson and Gloria Mutiri. The four Wildcats help make up a team of 28 that will train from June 23-29 at the American Sports Center in Anaheim, California, the official host city for the U.S. Women's and Men's National Volleyball Teams.
K-State's four selections to the CNT-Anaheim roster led all NCAA Division I programs, while Adams-Kaonohi and Dixon were two of three collegiate players named to the squad with four years of collegiate eligibility remaining. Adams-Kaonohi and Dixon also make up a five-member incoming class that was ranked 20th-best in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com.
Dixon tallied over 2,000 kills in her high school career and is a two-time Class 4A Kansas Player of the Year. She earned an Under Armour All-America Honorable Mention selection along with being named a finalist for the 2018 Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year. Dixon led Louisburg High School to back-to-back 4A state runner-up finishes, twice being named first team all-state. Playing her club volleyball for KC Power, Dixon was tabbed a top 50 recruit for the 2019 class by PrepVolleyball.com.
The Cats are currently on a nine-day foreign tour of Brazil that includes stops in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo as well as the Brazilian National Team Training Center. While in Brazil, the Wildcats will play five exhibition matches against professional clubs as well as train with the Brazil U20 National Team.
K-State is set to return eight letterwinners from last year's squad, including seniors Sarah Dixon and Mckenzi Weber. The Cats retain 2018 AVCA All-America Honorable Mention selections in Sarah Dixon and Mutiri.
