K-State Baseball Summer Update - June 24

PRO CATS
Evan Marshall, Chicago White Sox
Marshall has split time in 2019 with the Chicago White Sox and Triple-A Charlotte and is currently with the White Sox after being called up on May 1. In 19 relief outings with Chicago, Marshall has a 3-1 record with a 1.02 ERA, picking up victories in his three straight appearances from June 11-18. He has struck out 12 against four walks. He allowed the first earned runs of the season in his last outing at Texas on June 22, snapping a scoreless streak of 17 1/3 innings to begin the season. While with the Charlotte Knights, Marshall went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER, 10.0 IP) to go with two saves and 13 strikeouts in nine outings. Marshall was a fourth-round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011.
 
Carlos Torres, Detroit Tigers
Torres began the 2019 season with Triple-A El Paso (San Diego) before being signed by Detroit and being assigned to Triple-A Toledo. Torres was called up on June 9 and has appeared in four games with the Tigers. In six innings of relief, Torres struck out eight with nine hits allowed and five earned runs against him (7.50 ERA). Torres appeared twice in the Tigers' series with (June 22-24), totaling two innings without surrendering an earned run. While at Triple-A El Paso, Torres posted a 2.49 ERA over 25 1/3 innings (15 games) while picking up 23 strikeouts. He did not yield a run over five outings (5 2/3 innings) with Toledo before his contract was selected by Detroit. Torres was designated for assignment on June 22. Torres was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 15th round of the 2004 MLB Draft.
 
Nick Martini, Las Vegas Aviators (Triple-A, Oakland Athletics)
Martini, in his second year in the Oakland Athletics organization, is currently in Triple-A Las Vegas after beginning the season on the 7-day injured list. In 33 games with the Aviators, Martini has a slash line of .339/.442/.433 with nine doubles, a home run and 22 runs batted in. The former Wildcat is hitting .333 with four multi-hit games over his last 10 outings, including a three-hit output against Memphis on June 18. Martini made his Major League debut with the A's on June 6, 2018 against the Texas Rangers and appeared in 55 games with Oakland and earned a spot on its playoff roster in 2018. He hit .296 with a home run, nine doubles and 19 RBI with the Athletics last season and remains on the team's 40-man roster. The former All-American outfielder was a seventh-round selection of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011.
 
Nate Griep, Biloxi Shuckers (Double-A, Milwaukee Brewers)
Griep is in his fifth season in the Milwaukee Brewers' system and second season with Double-A Biloxi. Griep has picked up 15 saves in 15 opportunities to go with a 1.48 ERA (5 ER, 30.1 IP) and 31 strikeouts. Griep's 15 saves lead the Southern League while his 25 appearances rank third. Over his last 10 outings, he has collected eight saves with just six hits given up over 10 2/3 innings. Griep collected a six-out save while striking out three in his last outing on June 22 against the Mississippi Braves. In just over four seasons, Griep has totaled 103 saves in 115 opportunities to go with 206 strikeouts. Griep was an eighth-round selection by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2015 MLB Draft.
 
Josh Rolette, Lake County Captains (Class-A Full Season, Cleveland Indians)
Rolette has a slash line of .224/.341/.303 with four doubles, a triple and 11 RBI in 24 games with Lake County this season. Rolette was activated from the 7-day injured list on June 4 and has gone 6-for-27 with four RBI in eight games since. Rolette, who was taken in the 39th round of the 2017 MLB Draft by Cleveland, appeared in 56 games for the Captains in 2018. He posted a slash line of .253/.360/.388 with four home runs, 21 runs batted in and 11 doubles last season with Lake County.
 
Drew Mount, Daytona Tortugas (Class-A Advanced, Cincinnati Reds)
Mount enters his second season in the Reds' organization and was assigned to Class-A (advanced) Daytona after spending the 2018 season with the Billings Mustangs (rookie). In 36 games this season, Mount owns a slash line of .241/.277/.355 with a homer, seven doubles, three triples and 16 runs batted in with 11 stolen bases. Mount recorded back-to-back two-hit games on June 10-12, driving in three. Mount was the only Wildcat taken in the 2018 MLB Draft, a 16th-round selection by Cincinnati. Mount was K-State's leader in home runs, RBI, triples and steals in his one season at K-State.
 
Will Brennan, AZL Indians Blue (Rookie, Cleveland Indians)
Brennan was the only Wildcat taken in the 2019 MLB Draft, as he was taken in the eighth round (No. 250 overall) by the Cleveland Indians. Brennan was assigned to the AZL Indians Blue (Rookie) on June 17. In six games, he has a .217 average (5-for-23) with a double, triple, four RBI and four runs scored. Brennan recorded his first professional hit on June 20, a triple against the AZL Reds. The next day he went 3-for-5 with two RBI. In three seasons at K-State, Brennan produced 208 base hits with a .332 career average and was the nation's toughest hitting to strike out in 2019.
 
SENIORS IN 2019-20
Luke Bay, Juno Beach Loggerheads (Collegiate League of the Palm Beaches)
Bay has made three appearances (two starts) for the Juno Beach (Florida) Loggerheads of the Collegiate League of the Palm Beaches. Bay has no record with an 11.36 ERA (8 ER, 6.1 IP) with nine strikeouts. In his last outing, Bay struck out three in one inning of relief, allowing one earned run on one hit. The Loggerheads are currently 2-4 and in a tie for fourth place in the Collegiate League of the Palm Beaches standings.
 
Kasey Ford, Rockford Rivets (Northwoods League)
Playing for the Rockford (Illinois) Rivets, Ford has made four starts while totaling 23 2/3 innings. Ford has a 1.90 earned run average with 24 strikeouts. In his last start, Ford threw 8 1/3 innings with one earned run allowed one four hits while striking out nine against Kenosha on June 20. It marked his second consecutive quality start after he tossed six scoreless innings against Battle Creek on June 14. The Rivets are currently 13-13 and in third in the Great Lakes East division of the Northwoods League standings.
 
Luke Hauswirth, Midwest Nationals (Show-Me League)
Playing for the Midwest (Springfield, Missouri) Nationals, Hauswirth is 1-0 with a 1.12 ERA in three starts. Hauswirth earned the win against Queen City on June 12, going six innings with one earned run allowed on three hits while striking out seven. He went six full innings in his last start with one earned run allowed on three hits with 11 strikeouts. Hauswirth leads the Show-Me League with 23 strikeouts and has given up just six hits in 16 innings. The Nationals are currently 8-4 and in second place in the Show-Me League standings.
 
Caleb Littlejim, Waterloo Bucks (Northwoods League)
In 13 games for the Waterloo (Iowa) Bucks, Littlejim has a slash line of .214/.298/.429 with a double, triple and two home runs. Littlejim has driven in 11 and scored 11 runs. He homered in back-to-back games on June 3-4 against Mankato. The Bucks are currently 15-13 and in first in the Great Plains East division of the Northwoods League standings.
 
Brett Lockwood, Waterloo Bucks (Northwoods League)
Playing for the Waterloo (Iowa) Bucks, Lockwood has appeared five times and yet to allow an earned run in 9 1/3 innings of relief. Lockwood has picked up back-to-back victories in his last two outings, going 3 1/3 innings against La Crosse in which he allowed one hit with four strikeouts. He tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings against Eau Claire in his last appearance. Opponents are hitting just .147 against him this season. The Bucks are currently 15-13 and in first in the Great Plains East division of the Northwoods League standings.
 
Cameron Thompson, Harwich Mariners (Cape Cod Baseball League)
Playing for the Harwich (Massachusetts) Mariners, Thompson has a slash line of .172/.265/.172 in nine games. Thompson has hit safely in his last three games, with an RBI and two walks in that stretch. Harwich is 6-6 and in fifth place in the East Division of the Cape Cod standings.
 
JUNIORS IN 2019-20
Chris Herb, Hornell Dodgers (New York Collegiate Baseball League)
Herb is hitting .282 with an on-base percentage of .429, two doubles and six RBI in 11 games for the Hornell Dodgers. Herb has stolen nine bases and scored 13 runs this season and has hit safely in seven of his last 10 games with three multi-hit games. Hornell is 7-3-1 and in second place in the Western Division of the NYCBL standings.
 
Zach Kokoska, Orleans Firebirds (Cape Cod Baseball League)
Playing for the Orleans (Massachusetts) Firebirds, Kokoska is hitting .194 (6-for-31) in nine games with an on-base percentage of .286 and a slugging percentage of .194. Kokoska went 3-for-4 in a 9-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader against Bourne on June 16. Orleans is 6-4-1 and tied for first in the West Division of the Cape Cod standings.
 
Jordan Maxson, St. Joseph Mustangs (MINK League)
Playing for the St. Joseph (Missouri) Mustangs, Maxson has a slash line of .286/.400/.532 in 20 games. Maxson has three doubles, two triples and four homers while driving in 18 runs. Maxson homered in back-to-back games (June 19-20) and has tallied a base hit and an RBI in each of his last three games. Maxson was named a MINK League All-Star for St. Joseph., who is 12-4 and in first in the MINK North Division.
 
Jaxon Passino, Mankato MoonDogs (Northwoods League)
Passino has made six relief appearances for the Mankato (Minnesota) MoonDogs of the Northwoods League. In 9 1/3 innings of relief, Passino has struck out five with 12 earned runs allowed (11.57 ERA). Passino pitched a perfect inning of relief in his last outing against Rochester on June 22, picking up a strikeout. The MoonDogs are currently 12-16 and in fifth place in the Great Plains West division of the Northwoods League standings.
 
Terrence Spurlin, St. Joseph Mustangs (MINK League)
Playing for the St. Joseph (Missouri) Mustangs, Spurlin has a slash line of .324/.422/.378 with two doubles and 10 runs batted in. Spurlin has hit safely in six of his last seven games, with 10 hits in 28 at-bats and five RBI in that stretch. He went 3-for-5 with a double and five RBI on June 15 against Nevada. Spurlin was named a MINK League All-Star for St. Joseph, who is 12-4 and in first in the MINK North Division.

Jeffrey Boggess, Pittsfield Suns (Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England)
Boggess has a slash line of .239/.397/.261 in 13 games for the Pittsfield (Massachusetts) Suns of the FCBL. Boggess is 11-for-46 with a double, seven RBI and six runs scored. He has three multi-hit efforts in his last six games, with four RBI in that stretch. Pittsfield is 12-7 and in first place in the FCBL standings.
 
Blake Burrows, Rockford Rivets (Northwoods League)
Playing for the Rockford (Illinois) Rivets, Burrows owns a slash line of .283/.441/.302 in 19 games. Burrows is 15-for-53 with a double, eight runs scored, 15 walks and 14 stolen bases. Burrows has collected three hits over his last three games, including a 2-for-3 effort with a double against Kenosha on June 22. Burrows has drawn six walks in his last four games. Dale went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI on June 17 and homered in a 6-5 win over Brockton on June 19. Westfield is 6-14 and is currently in seventh in the FCBL standings.
 
Dominic Hughes, Pittsfield Suns (Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England)
Playing the Pittsfield (Massachusetts) Suns of the FCBL, Hughes has a slash line of .175/.319/.298 in 16 games. Hughes has two doubles, a triple and a home run with three RBI and 11 walks drawn. He is currently on a seven-game on-base streak and has drawn at least one walk in four straight games. Pittsfield is 12-7 and in first place in the FCBL standings.
 
Connor McCullough, Harwich Mariners (Cape Cod Baseball League)
