
Maffei Wins Flight A Title at Marliss Gruver Invitational

AUBURN, Alabama. – The Kansas State women's tennis team wrapped up its last day at the Marliss Gruver Invitational on Sunday morning (September 22) with three singles wins, including a Flight A finals victory from junior player Rosanna Maffei, at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
Facing off with Selin Ovunc of Auburn, Maffei would clinch a three-set comeback on the No. 6 seed in the Flight A division with scores of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. The underdog for every match in Flight A, Maffei would go on to defeat the No. 4, 5, 9, and 6 seeds over the weekend.
The last time a Wildcat went undefeated in a fall tournament came back in 2017 from teammate Margot Decker, who recorded a 3-0 outing at the UNC Invitational back on November 3-5.
Maffei was not the only Wildcat to record a win on Sunday as sophomore Karine-Marion Job and junior Ioana Gheorghita would both notch victories in both flights. Job defeated No. 5 seed Anna Vrbenska from Ole Miss with a score line of 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, while Gheorghita came away with a victory against Rhea Shrivastava from Yale with scores of 6-4, 6-4.
Job would go on to finish in seventh place for the Flight A Division, while Gheorghita clinched a third-place finish in the Flight B division for the weekend.
Overall, K-State would produce eight wins in singles competition at the Marliss Gruver Invitational.
The Wildcats will next travel to Dallas, Texas to compete in the SMU Invitational starting Friday, September 27 for their second fall tournament of the season.
