
Maffei, Gheorghita Prepare to Compete in SMU Invitational

MANHATTAN, Kansas. – The Kansas State women's tennis team heads down to Dallas, Texas to compete at the SMU Invitational for its second tournament of the fall season. Juniors Rosanna Maffei and Ioana Gheorghita will make the trip for the fall tournament, which runs Friday-Sunday, September 27-29.
K-State will be among nine other teams this weekend, which includes SMU, South Carolina, Kansas, Wichita State, Stephen F. Austin, Southern Miss, Arkansas, UT San Antonio.
Coming off their first tournament at the Marliss Gruver Invitational in Auburn, Alabama last weekend, the Wildcats produced eight single wins, which included a Flight A title victory from Maffei. Maffei notched four straight victories in route to her to the title, as this was her first performance on the court since Spring 2018.
Maffei became the first player since teammate Margot Decker back in 2017 at the UNC Invitational to win every singles match-up in a fall tournament.
Gheorghita claimed early round victories in the Flight B bracket at the Marliss Gruver Invitational, leading to a third-place finish with a 3-1 record.
The Wildcats will travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma next weekend for the start of the ITA All-American Championships, which will begin on October 5.
