K-State Golf Alum Robert Streb Wins PGA's RSM Classic

SEA ISLAND, Ga. - Former K-State men's golfer Robert Streb found the elusive birdie he needed the third time on No. 18, tapping in the winning putt after nearly draining a 160-yard approach from the rough for his second career PGA Tour win at the RSM Classic Sunday afternoon.
Streb became the first two-time champion of the RSM Classic after beating Kevin Kisner on the second hole of a sudden death playoff.
Replaying No. 18 in the playoff, Streb's drive landed in a fairway bunker and his approach was well short of the green, but he used an 8-foot putt to save par while Kisner two-putted.
Back in the 18th tee box for the second playoff hole, Streb again drove left of the fairway, but cleared the bunker and had a good lie in the left rough while Kisner followed with a drive into the right rough. Streb's next shot will likely stick as one of his most memorable as the 160-yard approach rolled just over the left lip of the cup and stopped 15 inches past the hole. Kisner chipped past the hole and sunk a long putt to save par, but it was formality before Streb tapped in the tournament winner.
Streb's first career win came at The RSM Classic in 2014. Sunday's playoff marked the fourth time in the last five years that the event has ended with a playoff. Streb earned a nearly $1.2 million purse and 500 FedEx Cup points, in addition to a two-plus season exemption on the PGA Tour, berths into the 2021 Masters, the 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions, 2021 The Players Championship and the 2021 PGA Championship. Streb has played 214 PGA Tour events in his ninth season.

"First off, I was happy I was not in that bunker again," Streb laughed in a Golf Channel interview after the round. "It looked like it was going to jump a bit, trying to hit the pitching wedge banking on it. Obviously it came out perfect, landed soft. It was going to need a little fortune to get close and I got it."
"It's nice to get another (win) knocked off."
The 2009 K-State graduate played brilliantly all week and carried a three-shot lead into Sunday's final round after going bogey free through the second and third, including a career-low-tying 63. Still, Streb needed a birdie on No. 17 in regulation to force a playoff Sunday. He nearly holed a birdie putt on No. 18 to win the crown after 54 holes but the red number remained elusive.Replaying No. 18 in the playoff, Streb's drive landed in a fairway bunker and his approach was well short of the green, but he used an 8-foot putt to save par while Kisner two-putted.
