MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State sophomore left-handed pitcher Jordan Wicks was named to the 2021 Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-America Third Team, the publication announced Tuesday.
Wicks, the 2019 Big 12 Freshman of the by Year, made four weekend starts for the Wildcats in a shortened 2020 season. The southpaw allowed just one earned run over his 26 innings (0.35 ERA) while going 3-0, including a scoreless streak of 24 2/3 innings to begin the year.
The Conway, Arkansas, product put together 26 strikeouts against only four walks. His 0.35 earned run average ranked 10th in the nation and was tops in the Big 12 among starters. His WHIP of 0.65 was the 18th-best mark in the country and second in the conference.
On December 7, D1Baseball.com ranked Wicks as the nation's No. 10 collegiate prospect ahead of the 2021 MLB Draft. The website also honored Wicks with the 2020 Summer Breakout Prospect Award after a dominant summer with the Rockford (Illinois) Rivets of the Northwoods League.
Wicks becomes the program's fourth preseason all-America recognition by Collegiate Baseball and first since the 2014 season, when both Ross Kivett (first team) and Jake Matthys (third team) were honored.
The Wildcats ended the 2020 campaign with a record of 10-7, winning seven of their final nine games in head coach Pete Hughes' second season.
