May 08, 2020 | Rowing
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State rowing team saw 27 student-athletes represented on the 2020 Academic All-Big 12 teams, the conference announced today (May 8).
Out of the 27 individuals who made the list, 24 student-athletes earned first-team selections while three others followed up with second-team selections. Amongst those who rounded out the list for K-State, four individuals owned a 4.0 grade point average, which included Aubrey Gilchrist, Ellie Hahn, Kate Odgers and Jessica Schenk.
Those who repeated their scholarly performances from last season and earned another selection on the conference's academic teams featured Gilchrist, Mikaela Bennett, Abigail Dressler, Caroline Geither, Logan Frost, Emily Johnson, Mattie Warner, Marisa Rodriguez, Madison Rebel, Madison Jensen and Taylor Hartman.
In total, the conference awarded 197 student-athletes with academic distinctions. First-team selections equated to 164 individuals while 33 other members filled up the second-team selections. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible
Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the Wildcats finished the 2019-20 season competing in two regattas while taking part in a scrimmage against Oklahoma. K-State put together a solid showing at the Jayhawk Jamboree back on October 20, as the team compiled one gold, two silver and two bronze medals. During the Sac State Duel in February, the Wildcats recorded two wins in four races at Lake Natoma against Sacramento State.
