
Big 12 Championships Up Next for K-State Cross Country

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men's and women's cross country team will return to Stillwater, Oklahoma on Friday (October 29) for the 2021 Big 12 Cross Country Championships at the Greiner Family Cross Country Course.
The meet will begin at 10 a.m. CT with the men's 8k championship race, followed by the women's 6k championship race at 11 a.m. CT. Awards will take place promptly at 12 p.m.
"I think both the men and women can finish either fourth or fifth at Big 12's," stated head coach Ryun Godfrey. "Both teams are ready to run well!"
Iowa State and Oklahoma State are the only Big 12 teams ranked nationally. In the men's division, Iowa State is ranked No. 2 and Oklahoma State is No. 5. On the women's side, Oklahoma State is No. 7 and Iowa State is No. 17 according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Last time the Wildcats competed was on October 15 at the Pre-Nationals Invitational in Tallahassee, Florida at the Apalachee Regional Park. The men's team placed fourth overall in the Men's Open 8k race with 158 points, defeating Arizona, California and Big 12 rival Kansas. The women's team finished 27th in the Women's Garnet 6k race with 730 points.
The men's team placed six of their 11 runners in the top-50 led by junior Hadley Splechter for the third time this season. Splechter placed 25th out of 256 competitors in the men's 8k with a time of 24:55.3.
After competing in her first race of the season, redshirt senior Kassidy Johnson led the way in the women's 6k with a time of 21:23.1, placing 117th out of 243 runners.
