New Opportunities in Consolation Draw Moves Job to Quarterfinals

Nov 05, 2021 | Tennis

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – It was a brisk 65-degree day in San Diego, California as senior Karine-Marion Job competed in day two of competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Fall Championships at the Barnes Tennis Complex on Friday (November 5).

Starting off the day in the first round of the singles consolation bracket, Job took on Denver's Anna Riedmiller and was victorious in two-sets 6-3, 7-6(4).

"It was a nice bounce back for KJ today," said head coach Jordan Smith. "I thought she played well in all four sets and pulled out a very strong win against a great player from Denver."

After defeating Riedmiller, the senior from Lyon, France had a break before having a matchup in the quarterfinals against Alexandra Yepifanova from Stanford.

Job fell to Yepifanova in two-sets 6-4, 6-3.

"She came up against a better player with a similar tennis style in the second match and honestly, I'm just happy that she found a way to get in a better rhythm early in both matches today," stated Smith.

ITA National Fall Championships marks the end of the fall season for Job, but the remaining Wildcats will continue the weekend at the Big 12 Fall Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma on Saturday (November 6).
