STILLWATER, Okla. – Coming in as the runner-up in Flight A of the singles main draw, senior Rosanna Maffei concluded the final day of competition at the Big 12 Fall Championships on Sunday (November 7).
After making her way to the finals in Flight A, Maffei dropped to Alina Shcherbinina from Baylor, 6-4, 6-3.
"Overall, it was a good weekend for the Cats," stated assistant coach Trang Huynh-McClain. "We played a lot of competitive matches. It was a good test on our progress this fall and to see where we are in the Big 12. Rosy showed that she is a tough competitor, and I am proud of how she gives everything she's got on the court. We want to keep that mentality as a whole team."
The Atripalda, Italy native defeated the No. 3 seed Malkia Ngounoue from Kansas in the first round of match play, followed by Texas Tech's Kailey Evans in the quarterfinals and Mananchaya Sawangkaew from Oklahoma State in the semifinals. Maffei took down all three opponents in two-sets.
The fall campaign comes to an end after Sunday (November 7). The Wildcats will pick up again in the spring for the 2022 season.
