MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State head coach Jordan Smith has announced the addition of Florentine Dekkers (Ammerzoden, Netherlands) to the women's tennis team for the 2021-22 campaign on Thursday (April 15).
The Dutch product will provide a boost to the Wildcats when next season gets underway, as she has earned a Universal Tennis Rating of 10.34 and has been spotted as high as No. 254 in the ITF World Junior Rankings.
Dekkers recently earned a No. 25 ranking in the Netherlands Women's Open Rankings.
"We're excited to welcome Florentine to our tennis family," said Smith. "Florentine has the personality, drive, and game that will fit our culture perfectly. I was impressed with how well she understood her tennis abilities and goals for the future. Clearly, she has been successful as a junior competing in both singles and doubles across the world. I believe that her attacking style will help with the transition to the collegiate level. Overall, Florentine is going to be a great student-athlete and happy to have her as a Wildcat!"
Dekkers' trophy case includes a bevy of tournament titles in the Netherlands in 2019, where she won two ITF Tournaments in Dijon (J5 Singles and J5 Doubles), the ITF J4 Doubles Tournament in Almere and another ITF J5 Doubles Tournament in Limassol. She is also a multiple-time Dutch champion in both singles and doubles' action.
During the 2019 ITF Junior Tour, Dekkers collected an impressive 27-12 mark in singles play, with 13 of those victories taking place on clay courts.
Dekker will follow her sister, Gabrielle, in Division I tennis, as the elder Dekkers has posted 26 singles' victories the past three seasons at Utah State.
Dekkers is the second player to join the K-State women's tennis team for the 2021-22 season following fellow international student-athlete Dinara Alloyarova (Engels, Russia), who signed with the Wildcats in November during the early signing period. Alloyaroa is pronounced Dy-NARA Alloy-AH-rova.
K-State is currently finishing out its 2021 home slate against No. 40 Oklahoma State (9-10, 2-4 Big 12) on Friday, April 16 and No. 24 Oklahoma (12-5, 3-3 Big 12) on Sunday, April 18 at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium. Both matches are open to a limited number of fans and spectators with fans needing to wear face coverings to watch at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.
