Cross Country Heads to Gans Creek Classic on Friday

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men's and women's cross country teams hit the road on Friday (October 1) to compete at the Gans Creek Classic hosted by Missouri on the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Missouri.
Friday's meet will begin at 9 a.m., CT with the men's 8k followed by the women's 6k at 9:45 a.m. CT.
"We are looking forward to our second competition this year," stated head coach Ryun Godfrey. "Training has been going well and I believe it will translate well going into Friday."
The Gans Creek Classic will include 17 men's and women's teams, including regional foes Creighton, Drake, Kansas and Wichita State, along with host Missouri, Baylor and Texas A&M.
The last time the Wildcats competed was on September 18 at the Cowboy Jamboree. In a competitive field that included 18 men's teams and 16 women's teams, K-State finished in seventh place in the women's 6K with 188 points, while the men's team placed ninth in the 8k with 294 points. Both squads finished ahead of conference foes Texas Tech and Oklahoma.
Junior Jaybe Shufelberger led the way for K-State placing 13th with a time of 21:34.8 in the women's 6k. Fellow junior Hannah Stewart was not far behind in 33rd with a time of 22:28.7.
In the men's 8k, junior Hadley Splechter finished 60th out of 179 competitors with a time of 25:25.3. Next up for the Wildcats was junior David Lutgen in 65th, finishing in 25:30.5. All 11 runners placed among the top-150.
