SAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mexico - The Kansas State women's golf team brought its fall season to a close on Sunday as the Wildcats finished the Battle at the Beach in 15th place at 36-over par 888 following a 14-over par 298 final round.
"It was a disappointing day for us," said head coach Kristi Knight. "After day one we were in position but there were opportunities we just didn't capitalize on. We'll use the offseason to work on scoring."
Leading the Wildcats at the par-71, 6,250-yard Club Campestre San Jose was Haley Vargas in a tie for 40th place at 6-over par 219. Vargas shot a 1-over par 72 final round that included three birdies, and she ended the fall slate with 100 percent of her rounds contributing to the team score. This is now the third straight event where Vargas has led the team on the standings.
Manon Donche-Gay shot a 5-over par 76 final round and tied for 50th place at 9-over par 222, while Remington Isaac tied for 67th at 12-over par 225 after carding a 4-over par 75 third round.
Next on the leaderboard for the Cats was Napua Glossner, who tied for 79th place at 18-over par 231 after registering a 6-over par 77 final round.
Just a stroke behind her in a tie for 81st place at 19-over par 232 was Noa Van Beek, who carded a 4-over par 75 third round to close out her second career collegiate appearance.
All the hardware went to LSU this weekend as the Tigers won the team championship at 14-under par 838, while Ingrid Lindblad topped the individual leaderboard at 18-under par 195.
K-State now enters a brief offseason until it returns on February 6-7 at the FAU Paradise Invitational, which is the first of a six tournament spring slate before postseason play begins.
