The spring season starts Jan. 21 in Boca Raton, Fla.
Kansas State women's tennis coach Jordan Smith announced on Tuesday (Dec. 13) the addition of two players to the roster for the upcoming Spring 2023 season, along with two more in Fall 2023.
Farhat Quamar, a 20-year-old from Jaipur, India, and Maria Santos, an 18-year-old from Cortegaça, Portugal, will compete for the Wildcats starting in January.
Tereza Polakova, an 18-year-old from Dolní Břežany, Czech Republic, and Charlotte Keitel, a 17-year-old from Bad Dürkheim, Germany, will arrive in Manhattan in the Fall of 2023.
Quamar competed in Women's ITF Tournaments in 2022 where she went 5-7 in singles matches and 1-3 in doubles.
"It's going to be great adding Farhat to our squad in January," Smith said. "She'll bring a lot of experience in singles and doubles. Farhat will definitely do great as a Wildcat!"
Santos competed mainly in the Junior ITF in 2022 where she went 9-15 in singles matches and 14-11 in doubles competition.
"We're happy to have Maria joining our tennis program," Smith said. "Maria has been very successful on the doubles court in juniors, including an impressive run to the finals at the European Championships!"
Polakova competed well in the Junior ITF as she started January 2022 winning the J5 Prague tournament. She finished the year with a 20-8 singles record, including a 7-match winning streak, and went 5-6 in doubles competition. She also competed in two WTA events where she was 0-2 in singles and 0-1 in doubles.
"We're excited to have Tereza joining our tennis family next fall," Smith said. "She has a great tennis background and great personality. We knew during Tereza's visit that she would be great as a future Wildcat."
Keitel went 19-12 in Junior ITF competitions in 2022, winning her last five matches and the J5 Merzig Tournament. She also went 7-6 in junior doubles play, winning the J4 Fuerth Tournament as part of a 4-match winning streak. She also competed in two WTA events, going 1-2 and 1-1 in doubles.
"Another great addition for our program to bring in Charlotte next fall," Smith said. "I believe her skills will shine brightly here and bring in great depth for the Tennis Cats!"
K-State open the Spring 2023 season on Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 21-22 with first of back-to-back matches against North Florida and Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla.
