
K-State Cross Country Earns 17 Academic All-Big 12 Honors

Wildcats lead the conference in 4.00 GPA with 5
The Kansas State men's and women's cross country teams announced 17 Academic All-Big 12 accolades on Tuesday (Dec. 20).
K-State leads the conference in the number of cross country athletes nominated with a 4.00 GPA at five with senior Sydney Burton, graduate students Kerby Depenbusch and Helen Giefer, junior Matthew Hauser and senior Mike Rohlinger.
The men with first-team honors include Depenbusch, Hauser, Rohlinger and seniors Stephen Kielhofner, David Lutgen, Jack Moore, Hadley Splechter, junior Jack Vincent and sophomore Tommy Hazen.
The women's first-team include Burton, Giefer and graduate student Cailan Steward, senior Hannah Stewart and sophomores Kate Kowalik and Alexa Rios.
In the second-team nominations for the Wildcats is senior Kyle Johnston and junior Katie Kasunic.
Eight Wildcats, Burton, Depenbusch, Giefer, Moore, Rohlinger, Splechter, Steward and Stewart have now earned multiple first-team honors in their academic careers.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
