K-State Football Places 34 on Academic All-Big 12 Teams

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State football saw 34 of its student-athletes pick up Academic All-Big 12 honors – including a program-best 29 first-team members – as the conference office announced 306-member Academic All-Big 12 football teams on Tuesday.
 
The Wildcats tied a program best with 34 overall Academic All-Big 12 honors, a mark the Wildcats set last season. The 29 first-team honorees best the 27 they produced each of the last two seasons.
 
K-State now has a Big 12-leading 270 total citations since 2014, which is 32 more than the next closest program (Oklahoma State, 238).
 
The Wildcats had five student-athletes that were nominated with a perfect 4.0 GPA in Cooper Beebe (social studies education), Robert Hentz II (educational studies), Will Howard (accounting), Austin Moore (kinesiology) and Chris Tennant (business).
 
Joining those five in earning first-team accolades were Nick Allen (business administration), Jack Blumer (elementary education), Jax Dineen (human development and family science), Jace Friesen (communication studies), Daniel Green (sociology), Sam Hecht (construction science and management), Thomas Helten (construction science and management), Eli Huggins (data analytics), Andrew Leingang (chemical engineering), KT Leveston (human development and family studies), Matthew Maschmeier (professional strategic selling), Cincere Mason (business administration), Nate Matlack (personal financial planning), Christian Moore (sociology criminology), Brendan Mott (finance), Beau Palmer (marketing), Randen Plattner (mechanical engineering), Seth Porter (communication studies), Desmond Purnell (athletic training and rehab sciences), Jake Rubley (business), Ben Sinnott (business), Cody Stufflebean (industrial engineering), Kade Warner (academic advising) and Sammy Wheeler (business administration).
 
K-State's second-team members included Julius Brents (communication studies), Damian Ilalio (athletic training and rehab sciences), Shane Porter (communication studies), Deuce Vaughn (marketing) and Ty Zentner (PE/health education).
 
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
 
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
 
No. 9 Kansas State takes on fifth-ranked Alabama in the 89th annual Allstate Sugar Bowl on Saturday, December 31, inside Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The game, which kicks off at 11 a.m., will be shown on ESPN.
