Feb 28, 2022 | Women's Golf
PEORIA, Ariz. – The Kansas State women's golf team couldn't make up the ground it needed in Monday's final round of the Westbrook Invitational, finishing in 13th place in its spring debut held at the par-72, 6,230-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club.
Â
The Wildcats tallied an 11-over par 299 in the final round as they concluded the event at 22-over par 886.
Â
"It came down to chipping and putting," head coach Kristi Knight said. "It looked like we were hit or miss with chipping around the green, and we did not hole many putts. Our speed was pretty good on the greens, but we just didn't make anything. Therefore, we were not in the mix."
Â
K-State was led by Napua Glossner, who tied for 23rd place at 2-over par 218. Glossner, a sophomore who made her fifth career scoring lineup appearance, carded a 3-over par 75 final round to close out her solid start to 2022 with the highest finish of her career.Â
Â
Haley Vargas made a six-spot rise on the leaderboard in the final round into a tie for 46th place at 6-over par 222, thanks to a team-best third round score of 1-over par 73.
Â
Three Wildcats, Heather Fortushniak, Remington Isaac and Gabriela McNelly, finished in a tie for 61st place at 9-over par 225. In the third round, Fortushniak carded a 2-over par 74, Isaac a 5-over par 77, and McNelly a 6-over par 78.
Â
No. 35 Mississippi State claimed the team victory at 13-under par 851, two strokes ahead of Nebraska. The Bulldogs were led by Julia Lopez Ramirez, who captured the individual title by three shots at 11-under par 205.Â

Kansas State will return to Arizona, March 11-13, for the Clover Cup, hosted by Notre Dame, at Logbow Golf Club in Mesa.
