MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women's golf team is set to continue its spring season in Mesa, Arizona, at the Clover Cup, hosted by Notre Dame, at the par-72, 6,184-yard Longbow Golf Club.
The three-day, 54-hole event will begin on Friday and conclude on Sunday, with 18 holes being completed each day. This will be just the second time that K-State has competed in the Clover Cup, with its first appearance occurring in 2019 where the Wildcats finished in eighth place.
"We're excited to be back in the Clover Cup at Longbow," head coach Kristi Knight said. "It's a great course and a strong field."
The Wildcats are eager to get back at it after a 13th-place finish in their spring debut at the Westbrook Invitational.
Napua Glossner, Remington Isaac, Haley Vargas, Briony Bayles and Manon Donche-Gay represent the five in the scoring lineup for K-State. It is the first time this season that Knight has utilized this lineup combination.
Glossner, a sophomore from San Diego, California, is coming off the highest finish of her career, as she led the Wildcats in the spring opener with a 23rd-place finish at 2-over par 218.
The talented freshman Isaac has now been a member of the scoring lineup in all six events throughout the 2021-22 season. She leads the team in stroke average at 73.26 and has had 100 percent of her rounds count towards the team score.
Vargas is another Wildcat who is making her sixth appearance in the lineup this season. The junior from Lubbock, Texas has proven she can play at an elite level with two career top-five finishes, while also still holding the best round of any Wildcat this season with a 5-under par 67 opening round at the Sam Golden Invitational, the 10th-best individual round in school history.
Bayles makes her second scoring lineup appearance this season and first of the spring. The Durham, England product has two career top-20 finishes to her name and will look for another to highlight her senior campaign.
Donche-Gay, a junior college transfer who's in her first season at K-State, is making her spring debut after totaling four appearances in the fall. Her career-high finish came at the Sunflower Invitational where she tied for fifth place, highlighting a fall that has her second on the team in stroke average at 74.50.
The massive 17-team field includes two Big 12 members, Oklahoma and No. 29 TCU, seven other ranked opponents in No. 42 Clemson, No. 48 East Tennessee State, No. 30 Georgia, No. 27 Kentucky, No. 17 LSU, No. 40 North Carolina and No. 20 Texas A&M, along with Cincinnati, Colorado State, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Mercer, New Mexico and host-school Notre Dame.
Yet another challenging field is a test that the Knight and the Wildcats are ready for.
"Playing with confidence and at the same time staying patient will be key," Knight said.
Kansas State will commence play on Friday morning with tee times for the opening round, which sees the Cats teeing off at 8 a.m. (MT) off hole No. 10. Fans can follow live scoring throughout all three days of action on Golfstat.com.
