Donche-Gay, Glossner Shine in Final Round

Mar 13, 2022 | Women's Golf

MESA, Ariz. - The Kansas State women's golf team tied for 14th place at 34-over par 898 but closed out the Clover Cup on a high note with its best round of the event on Sunday at the par-72, 6,184-yard Longbow Golf Club.

The Wildcats carded a 5-over par 293 final round behind some impressive golf from Manon Donche-Gay and Napua Glossner.

Donche-Gay, a junior from Avignon, France, tallied a new career-best round with a 5-under par 67 on Sunday to close out her weekend in a tie for 25th place at 2-over par 218. This was the spring debut and fourth career appearance for the junior college transfer, and it's a performance that can set the tone going forward in the championship season.

Glossner, a sophomore, was another Wildcat that had a career day as she also carded a 5-under par 67 final round, a number that ties her career best individual round score that she first accomplished in her freshman campaign at the Trinity Forest Invitational. The San Diego, California, product tied for 32nd place at 4-over par 220.

"Great play by Manon and Napua," head coach Kristi Knight said. "I am really pleased for them."

Next on the leaderboard for K-State was Haley Vargas, who tied for 49th place at 9-over par 225 after a 6-over par 78 third round.

Remington Isaac recorded an 11-over par 83 in the final 18 to tie for 76th place at 21-over par 237. Just behind Isaac and in a tie for 85th was Briony Bayles at 26-over par 242 following a 9-over par 81 third round.

No. 41 Clemson put together a 12-under par 276 final round to run away with the team title at 18-under par 846, five strokes ahead of No. 17 Texas A&M. The third-ranked golfer in the country, Ingrid Lindblad from LSU, claimed the individual championship at 18-under par 203.

While it wasn't as high of a finish that the Wildcats were hoping for, the ability to show resolve and finish with a strong final round is a great sign moving forward.

"We lost a few shots coming in, but this shows what we are capable of," Knight said. "We just have to keep getting better and pushing each other."

Kansas State will quickly get the chance to build off this performance as the Cats get right back to competition, returning to Arizona once again, March 18-20, for the MountainView Collegiate. The event that the Wildcats co-host with Missouri will be held at The Preserve in Tucson, Arizona.
