K-State Finishes Seventh at Schooner Fall Classic
Sep 21, 2025 | Women's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. – The Kansas State women's golf team was unable to make up any ground on the leaderboard during the final round of the Schooner Fall Classic on Sunday, as the Wildcats finished in seventh place at the par-70, 6,182-yard Belmar Golf Club.
Â
K-State carded a 54-hole score of even-par 840 following a round of 1-over par 281 on the final day, which included a lightning delay of just over an hour. K-State's 54-hole score of 840 tied the school record produced each of the last two years at the Wesbrook Invitational, but that event is held on a par-72 course.
The Wildcats finished only three shots behind sixth-place Florida State, while they were five shots clear of an eighth-place tie between Houston and Virginia Tech.
Â
"Today was tough from the start due to the rain and wind. We never really got any momentum going and seemed to trade birdies and bogeys amongst the team for most of the day, so it was fitting that we ended the round at 1-over," said head coach Stew Burke, whose squad was fourth in the 16-team field in most birdies (47) but also fifth in most bogeys (49). "We are a young team that is gaining valuable experience against good teams. It is obviously exciting as a coach to watch your team get into position, and it will be on Coach Rinko (Mitsunaga) and I in the coming weeks to make sure we better prepare them to finish out their rounds."
Â
The Wildcats were led during the tournament by sophomore Nanami Nakashima, who tied for 11th place with a career-best 54-hole score of 3-under par 207, which tied for the eighth-best 54-hole score in school history. The Kani, Japan, product finished the event third among the 90-player field with a 3.82 scoring average on the par 4s.
Â
Nakashima produced a bogey-free score of 4-under par 66 on Sunday – a new career high – to jump 18 spots up the individual leaderboard during the final round. Her previous career best was a 67 during the final round of the 2025 NCAA Lexington Regional.
Â
Beginning on hole No. 8 for the final-round shotgun start, Nakashima birdied two of her first three holes in addition to birdies on Nos. 16 and 18 before parring out over her final seven holes.
Â
Stalee Fields finished the event in a tie for 28th place at 1-over par 211 after a final-round tally of 2-over par 72. The freshman has finished in the top 30 in each of the first two events of her collegiate career.
Â
Senior Noa van Beek posted a 54-hole score of 4-over par 214 to tie for 37th place. After an up-and-down day of 6-over par and 5-under par on Saturday, the Oene, Netherlands, native turned in a score of 3-over par 73 on Sunday.
Â
Sophomore transfer Kelsey Chen went even par on Sunday as she tied for 52nd place with a three-round total of 6-over par 216. Chen finished two shots ahead of freshman Keen Visavapattamawan, who tied for 61st place following a final-round total of 3-over par 73.
Â
Oklahoma State claimed the team title with a 54-hole score of 18-under par 822, seven shots ahead of second-place TCU. Gracie McGovern of TCU and Sydney Givens of Georgia shared the individual title at 9-under par 201.
Â
"It is a quick turnaround as we leave again on Saturday for the Blessings, which is a really different test of golf," said Burke. "However, after this week, I am sure it is a test that our team can handle."
Â
The Wildcats will be back in action next Monday through Wednesday when they compete in the Blessings Collegiate Invitational held at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
