K-State Golf Teams Secure Fourth-Place Finishes

Oct 01, 2025 | Men's Golf, Women's Golf

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Kansas State men's and women's golf teams both tallied their best scores of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational during Wednesday's final round to collect fourth-place finishes at the par-72 Blessings Golf Club.

Each team recorded a final-round total of 7-over par 295. The men's team finished the event with a 54-hole score of 31-over par 895, while the women were at 38-over par 902.

"It was a really solid tournament for us overall," said men's head coach Grant Robbins, whose team finished only three shots out of third place and had an 11-shot cushion ahead of fifth-place Mississippi State. "This format – along with the difficulty of the golf course – can be a mental grind, and I thought we did a great job of competing and staying focused on every shot. We made a ton of mistakes, but so did a lot of teams. Our goal was to put the bad shots behind us, reset and move on to the next one, and I was really pleased with how we were able to do that. The great thing about this tournament early in the season is that it exposes any weaknesses in your game, and as coaches we are able to learn a lot about our team. I love the grit these guys have. They are resilient and have some qualities that can help us be a really good team. We do need to shore up some things, especially on the ballstriking side that we will address over the next few weeks, but we are pleased with where we are."

The Wildcat women made a 13-stroke improvement off its first-round score, the biggest difference from the opening round to the final round in the 10-team women's field. K-State's 7-over par final round was the second-best of the day as the Wildcats finished the event three shots behind third-place Mississippi State and 14 shots ahead of fifth-place Louisville.

"We got off to a really hot start today and also finished strong, which was rewarding to see," women's head coach Stew Burke said. "This place is just a brute, and it seems the more that you play it, the more you feel comfortable with its difficulty. Overall, it was a good week with a couple of impressive individual performances. I know there is a lot more to come from this group in the final two tournaments of the fall season. I am excited to get back home to Manhattan."

Both programs had a senior finish in the top 10 as Noa van Beek tied for sixth place at 5-over par 221 following a final-round score of 5-over par 77. She has two top-15 finishes over the first three events this season after recording only five such finishes in the first 29 stroke-play events of her career.

Transfer Shea Harmeson tied for seventh on the men's side with a 54-hole score of 3-over par 219 thanks to a final-round total of 1-under par 71. The Traverse City, Michigan, product started the day with a bogey but birdied No. 3 before parring out the rest of the front 9. He then bogeyed No. 12 but had birdies on Nos. 15 and 17 to collect his fourth round in red numbers this season.

"I am really proud of Shea – he's as tough as they come and competes his tail off. He's really fun to watch," said Robbins.

Freshmen Oliver Toyer and Ville Virkkala, along with Alex Lindstrom, joined Harmeson in the top 30 on the men's side. Toyer, a native of Cambridgeshire, England, tied for 22nd place at 10-over par 226 following a final-round total of 7-over par 79.

Virkkala and Lindstrom both improved their position on the leaderboard in the final round. A product of Espoo, Finland, Virkkala rose six spots on Wednesday to tie for 27th place at 13-over par 229. After rounds of 4-over par and 7-over par the first two days, Virkkala had his best round of the event at 2-over par 74 on Wednesday thanks to six birdies.

Lindstrom rebounded from an 11-over par second-round score as he made the biggest jump among the Wildcat men by moving 14 spots to tie for 29th place at 14-over par 230. The Halmstad, Sweden, native carded a final-round score of even-par 72 with two birdies and a bogey on the front before one birdie and two bogeys on the back.

Following a final-round total of 6-over par 78, sophomore Fionn Dobbin tied for 44th place with a 54-hole score of 20-over par 236.

Joining van Beek in the top 20 on the women's side were sophomores Kelsey Chen and Nanami Nakashima, as well as freshman Keen Visavappattamawan.

A native of Dalian, China, Chen had the best round of the day for the Wildcats with a score of 2-under par 70, allowing her to rise 13 spots on the leaderboard to a tie for 13th place at 10-over par 226. Chen was 1-over par at the turn on Wednesday but went bogey-free over her final nine holes with birdies on Nos. 11, 15 and 18.

Nakashima and Visavapattamawan matched each other's scores in all three rounds to tie for 17th place at 12-over par 228. The duo bettered their score by two shots in each round, culminating with a final-round score of 2-over par 74 on Wednesday.

Freshman Casey Kang, who was making her collegiate debut, tied for 37th place at 21-over par 237. Playing as an individual, Steele Fields finished in 51st place at 28-over par 244.

Homesteading Arkansas won both team titles with the men's squad finishing at 3-under par 861 and the women's team totaling a score of 8-under par 865. John Daly II of Arkansas was the only men's golfer to finish under par, winning the individual title at 2-under par 214. Mississippi State's Avery Weed earned a wire-to-wire victory to claim the women's individual title with a score of 14-under par 202.

The K-State women's golf team is back in action next week as the Wildcats take part in the OU Intercollegiate, Monday and Tuesday, at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas. The men's squad takes part in its final event of the fall October 25-26, the Steelwood Collegiate, held at Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Alabama.
