Cats Finish the Fall at Steelwood Collegiate

Oct 24, 2025 | Men's Golf

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming off over three weeks' worth of preparation, the Kansas State men's golf team will put the finishing touches on its fall schedule at the Steelwood Collegiate, Saturday and Sunday, at the par-72, 7,096-yard Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Alabama.

This is the third-straight year and the fourth time overall that the Wildcats will compete in the Steelwood Collegiate. They earned a third-place finish last season – which saw Nicklaus Mason take home the individual title – while K-State placed sixth in 2023 and ninth in 2018.

"We are looking forward to getting back out on the road and competing again," head coach Grant Robbins said. "We have had a few weeks off, which has given us a chance to work on all areas of everyone's game. We had a very competitive qualifier, and the guys have looked pretty sharp as we look to close out the fall against a very strong field. We have a much different lineup heading into this tournament compared to a year ago, however Coach (Cullen) Carstens and I are very familiar with the course having played there multiple times. The greens are pretty severe, so it is going to be imperative that we hit into some tight areas on approaches and be on the correct side of the hole. I am very excited to see how we compete this week."

Joining K-State in Loxley is Iowa State, Kennesaw State, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Nebraska, Purdue, Rice, Rutgers, host school South Alabama, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

The Wildcats will utilize the lineup of seniors Shea Harmeson and Alex Lindstrom, sophomore Fionn Dobbin and freshmen Ville Virkkala and Oliver Toyer. This is the same lineup that K-State deployed at the last tournament, the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, when it finished fourth in a competitive 10-team field. Additionally, sophomore Tyler Strong will compete as an individual.

Harmeson, a transfer from Saginaw Valley State, leads the team with a 72.00 scoring average and two top-10 finishes, including a tie for second place in the season-opening Wildcat Invitational. He is coming off a tie for seventh place at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational with a 54-hole score of 3-over par 219.
A product of Halmstad, Sweden, Lindstrom is right behind Harmeson with a 72.42 scoring average thanks in part to a score of 63 during the first round of the Git-R-Done Invitational, an event that he tied for first place at 13-under par 200. His 63 tied for the second-lowest round in school history, while his three-round total ranked fifth.

Virkkala and Toyer are next on the squad with scoring averages of 72.58 and 73.58, respectively, followed by Dobbin at 74.00. A native of Espoo, Finland, Virkkala has finished in the top 20 in three of his four fall events, including an eighth-place finish at the Wildcat Invitational at even-par 216. Dobbin and Toyer tied for eighth place in the Git-R-Done Invitational with a 54-hole score of 2-under par 211.

A product of Olathe, Kansas, Strong has competed in two events and holds a 75.17 scoring average with his best finish being a tie for 17th place at the Wildcat Invitational.

A shotgun start to the first 36 holes of play begins at 8:30 a.m., on Saturday as the Wildcats will be paired with Purdue and Kennesaw State, and tee times will be used for Sunday's final round beginning at 7:40 a.m. Live results can be followed on SCOREBOARD powered by Clippd.
