K-State Finishes First Half of Big 12 Slate with No. 7 Texas

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State returns to Tointon Family Stadium to host No. 7 Texas, finishing the first half of its Big 12 schedule, as the teams kick off a three-game series starting Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Wildcats will conclude the toughest conference-opening slate in the history of the Big 12, as the Longhorns represent the fourth consecutive top-20 opponent – and third straight ranked in the top 10. Texas was the unanimous preseason No. 1 team in the country and the conference favorite in the Big 12 preseason coaches' poll.

The second game of the series is set for Friday at 6 p.m. before the series wraps up Saturday at 4 p.m.

K-State is 11-3 at home this season, going 1-2 in its only home league series against sixth-ranked Oklahoma State. The Cats dropped all three games at No. 4 Texas Tech last weekend in Lubbock.

With construction ongoing on the new Morgan Family Arena, parking for baseball games at Tointon Family Stadium will be impacted during the 2022 season.
 
Fans are advised to park in the west parking lot of Bill Snyder Stadium and do so by entering through Gate 3 via College Avenue across from Ascension Via Christi Hospital. Gate 1 and Gate 2 will be closed for the duration of the 2022 baseball season.
 
When proceeding to the stadium on foot, fans are advised to exit the west parking lot along the pedestrian path between Gate 1 and Gate 2 and then proceed to the stadium via the sidewalk along College Avenue.

A LOOK AT K-STATE
K-State returns to Tointon Family Stadium, as the Wildcats host No. 7 Texas in a three-game series starting Thursday ... The Longhorns mark the fourth consecutive top-20 conference opponent K-State will face and the third straight ranked in the nation's top 10, completing the most difficult opening schedule in Big 12 history ... Last weekend, the Cats lost three games at fourth-ranked Texas Tech at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park ... K-State held a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning in the series opener before Texas Tech responded with a four-run sixth and later finished with a 6-3 victory ... After being shut out for the first time all season on Saturday (14-0), K-State raced out to a 5-2 lead as the game hit the seventh-inning stretch and later possessed a 6-4 lead going to the bottom of the ninth inning ... The Red Raiders again rallied, scoring three in the ninth, capped by a walk-off, two-run homer from Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year Jace Jung ... The Cats fell to 0-6 on the road through two conference road series and sit with a 1-8 league record ... The Longhorns lead the Big 12 in hitting (.320), home runs (57) and slugging percentage (.540) while ranking second in on-base percentage (.413) and RBI (263) ... Ivan Melendez is the national leader with 16 home runs and leads the conference with his 50 RBI and .863 slugging percentage ... UT's pitching staff also paces the Big 12 with a team ERA of 3.47 while combining for a league-best six shutouts (no other team has more than two) ... Lefty Pete Hansen, who will start Thursday, is the reigning Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after logging a two-hit shutout of TCU last Friday ... Texas leads the all-time series 60-20-1 (50-20-1 Big 12), dating back to 1985 ...
