Sooners Walk Away with Series Win Saturday

Oklahoma (27-14, 9-5 Big 12) built a 19-1 lead behind a seven-run second inning and an 11-run third. The Sooners sent 28 to the plate over the two-inning stretch (11 in the second, 17 in the third) and chased starter Griffin Hassall after 2 1/3 innings. K-State issued a dozen walks over the first three frames, while the OU offense tallied 10 hits in that span.
The Sooners tagged Hassall for 13 runs, all earned, in his 2 1/3 innings. Hassall faced 21 batters, surrendering eight hits to go with five walks. Hassall, along with relievers Landry Wideman and Wesley Moore combined for a season-high 13 walks in the contest.
OU's Jimmy Crooks and John Spikerman each doubled twice and finished with four hits apiece. Jackson Nicklaus and Blake Robertson both homered, as the Sooners totaled eight extra-base hits.
Wideman faced six in relief of Hassall, walking five and giving up a double, and did not record an out. He was charged with six earned runs.
Moore logged a career-long 3 2/3 innings, ending with six strikeouts and three walks. Moore allowed two earned runs on six hits.
Ty Ruhl was able to keep the Sooners to one unearned run over the last two innings. Ruhl struck out one and did not issue a walk.
Cole Johnson homered twice, the first multi-homer game of his career, and drove in five to lead the K-State offense.
Raphael Pelletier added a solo homer in the third. It was Pelletier's fourth long ball of the season while Johnson now has five bombs.
After the third inning, the Cats outscored the Sooners by a count of 9-3. K-State put across three in the sixth off Johnson's three-run shot – his second of the afternoon.
The Wildcats (21-21, 3-11 Big 12) added four more in the seventh, as the first four in the inning reached base. Nick Goodwin registered an RBI single, Cash Rugely and Brendan Jones each added sacrifice flies while Orlando Salinas contributed an RBI single.
Oklahoma starter David Sandlin earned the win after going 5 1/3. Sandlin was charged with six earned runs on five hits, walking four and punching out six.
Five Sooners turned in multi-hit efforts while six drove in multiple runs. Nicklaus, Robertson, Spikerman and Brett Squires each tallied three RBI.
K-State hit .538 with runners on base and .500 with men in scoring position.
Oklahoma went 8-for-19 (.421) with runners on base and 6-for-16 (.375) with runners in scoring position.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
A bloop double by Spikerman, followed by a wild pitch and an RBI groundout from Peyton Graham created the game's initial run in the bottom of the first inning.
The Sooners broke the game open in the second inning, as they brought 11 to the plate. Robertson belted a two-run home run and Squires ripped a two-RBI double to highlight the inning.
The lead swelled to 18 runs after OU sent 17 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs. K-State handed out nine walks and hit a batter in the inning while the defense committed two errors.
