Heptathlon Competes on Day One of Jim Click Shootout
Apr 07, 2022 | Track & Field
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Kansas State track and field team finished the first day of the women's heptathlon at the Jim Click Shootout with numerous personal-bests on Thursday (April 7) at the Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
"Urte had personal-bests in all the events today and obviously it was also a first day personal-best," stated Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto. "All legal winds as well. Very good first day. Madelyn is doing her first heptathlon ever, started one last year, but did not finish. She had personal bests in three events. She looked fine in high jump, but not quite trusting it yet. She will get there. With solid marks tomorrow, both will have very nice openers."
Junior Urte Bacianskaite and freshman Madelyn McCabe were the lone Wildcats in action on day one of the Jim Click Shootout, as Bacianskaite sits in second place in the women's heptathlon with 3,357 followed by McCabe in seventh place with 3,053 points.
The first event of the day was the 100-meter hurdles. Bacianskaite clocked in at 14.90 and placed eighth overall while McCabe was right behind in ninth with a time of 15.04. Both Wildcats recorded personal-best times.
In the high jump, Bacianskaite cleared a personal-best height of 1.72m/5-7.75, placing fourth. McCabe came in seventh and cleared a mark of 1.63m/5-4.25.
Next up for K-State was the shot put, as Bacianskaite claimed first place with a personal-best heave of 14.08m/46-2.50. In sixth place was McCabe with a personal-best throw of 12.08m/39-7.75.
The fourth and final event of the day was the 200-meter dash. Both Bacianskaite and McCabe recorded personal bests with Bacianskaite in seventh (25.69) and McCabe in eighth (26.27).
Competition will pick back up on Friday (April 8) at 1 p.m., CT with the long jump section of the women's heptathlon at the Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
