Apr 05, 2022 | Track & Field

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State track and field team will hit the road again after a weeklong break and head to Tucson, Arizona for the Jim Click Shootout hosted by Arizona from Thursday (April 7) to Saturday (April 9).

The first two days (Thursday and Friday) will focus solely on the heptathlon and decathlon. Competition will begin at 12:30 p.m., CT with the heptathlon 100-meter hurdles on Thursday and 11:30 a.m., CT on Friday.

The invitational portion of the meet will take place on Saturday and kick off with the women's hammer throw at 3 p.m., CT. Running events will commence at 7:20 p.m., CT with the men's 110-meter hurdles.

"We have continued to train for the important meets at the end of the year and will continue to do so for a couple more weeks," stated Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto. "We will be concentrating more on individual events as this weekend is more of a conventional competition. The weather forecast is great, and we will see great competition, so we are looking forward to the weekend."

K-State is off to a strong start to the outdoor season.

Sophomore Kade McCall broke the school record at the Texas Relays on March 24 in the men's hammer throw that was set in 2018 by Mitch Dixon. After fouling his first throw, McCall had a sixth-place heave of 67.56m/221-8. He is currently ranked 13th in the nation for men's hammer throw.

The distance medley relay team, made up of fifth year senior Noah Stevenson, sophomore Kyle Gale, fifth year senior Travis Hodge and junior Kyle Johnston, finished with a time of 9:42.04, which was .4 seconds faster than Princeton for second place at the Texas Relays. Also in the event were Big 12 foes Texas Tech, Texas, TCU and Kansas.

Freshman Kamyren Garrett is currently ranked 13th in the men's high jump with a mark of 2.15m/7-0.50 after competing at the Texas Relays and placing fourth in the B Section.

The Wildcats will take another weeklong break before returning to action on Friday-Saturday, April 22-23 for the John Jacobs Invitational hosted by Oklahoma.
