K-State Prepares for Last Regular Season Race in Charlottesville

The men will run the 8k at 7:45 a.m., the women in the 6k at 10 a.m.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's cross country teams travel to Charlottesville, Va., for the Pre-National, Panorama Farms Classic, on Saturday (Oct. 14) at Panorama Farms.

Both teams compete in the orange race, with the men's 8k starting at 7:45 a.m., CT and the women's 6k at 10 a.m., CT. Other ranked schools running in the orange race include Arizona's men, Kansas' women and both the men's and women's teams for George Washington, Missouri and Weber State.

This will be the Wildcats first time running at Panorama Farms, which will host this year's NCAA Championship on Nov. 18.

"For the men our strength is a tight pack, we're gonna have our pack up there a little bit higher," head coach Randy Cole said. "Our women, kind of got a couple of packs, but we can close the gap and continue to place pretty well in our meets so far."

During the last race on Sept. 29 at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo., the women's team finished in fourth place with 152 points, the men's team in seventh with 241 points.

Senior Hannah Stewart finished in the top-10 percent of the women's 5k, placing 20th in 21:36.3. Also, in the top-25 was senior Cailan Steward with a new personal best time of 21:43.9, finishing 25th.

Junior Tommy Hazen (26th; 24:45.4), who led the Wildcats for the second straight meet, and senior Kerby Depenbusch (42nd; 25:04.7) landed in the top-50 in the men's 8k.

In the USTFCCCA rankings released on Monday (Oct. 12) both the men's and women's teams were featured in the Midwest rankings, the women at No. 12, the men at No. 14.
