Wildcats in Third After Two Rounds at Colbert Hills

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women's golf team carded a two-round total of 14-over par 590 on Monday, as the Wildcats are in third place entering the final round of the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational held at the par-72, 6,446-yard Colbert Hills Golf Course.
The Wildcats have five players in the top 14 entering the final round, including three in the scoring lineup.
Junior Carla Bernat leads the field at 5-under par 139 thanks in part to a first-round score of 4-under par 68, which tied for the eighth-lowest score in the 25-year history of the tournament. The Castellon, Spain, native recorded 13 birdies on the day, including seven in the first round.
Bernat holds a two-shot lead over three players in a tie for second place at 3-under par 141, which includes Wildcat junior Remington Isaac. Competing as an individual, Isaac put together two under-par rounds with a 71 in the morning and a 70 in the afternoon. She bettered her previous 36-hole career low by one shot, which came at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational two years ago.
Senior Gabriela McNelly put together a 1-under par 71 in the afternoon as she moved 14 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for eighth place at 2-over par 146. She is tied with senior Napua Glossner, who is competing as an individual and put together identical rounds of 1-over par 73. Freshman Alenka Navarro is in contention for the first top-10 finish of her career as she enters Tuesday's final round tied for 14th place at 4-over par 148.
Sophomore Noa van Beek, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 33rd place at 10-over par 154. Freshman Julia Ballester Barrio and senior Haley Vargas are tied for 48th place and 50th place, respectively. Ballester Barrio carded a 36-hole score of 15-over par 159, one shot ahead of Vargas.
New Big 12 member BYU carded the only under-par round in the afternoon to move up three spots into a tie for first place with Sam Houston entering the final round. The Cougars and Bearkats are at 7-over par 583.
The final round of the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., on Tuesday morning. The event is free to the public, while live results can be followed at www.Golfstat.com.
