Splechter Breaks K-State Men’s Indoor Mile Record in Tyson Invitational

Breaks the men's indoor mile run record from 1976.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Junior Hadley Splechter's school-record performance in the men's indoor mile highlighted day two for the Kansas State men's and women's track and field teams on Saturday (Feb. 11) at the Tyson Invitational at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track in Fayetteville, Ark.
Splechter finished in second place in the men's indoor mile with a personal-best time of 4:02.07 to break the previously record held by Jeff Schemmel in 1976 with a time of 4:02.42 during the NCAA Championships. Fellow junior Mike Rohlinger landed in eighth place with a time of 4:09.93.
Fellow junior Sydney Burton also performed well in the women's mile run, earning a first-place finish in a field of eight runners with a personal-best time of 4:42.36, which was 40 seconds faster than the last participant's time. Freshman Grace Meyer ran her fastest mile at 5:01.10 to place fourth.
Two other Wildcats finished in the top-10 in Saturday's meet. Sophomore Kam Garrett landed in the top-10 in the men's high jump with an eighth place finish at 2.12m/6-11.50, while junior Jasmine Greer competed in the shot put with a 10th place throw of 14.97m/48-1/50.
Three distance runners also ran new personal bests, junior Jessica Caraway collected her fastest 800 meters in 2:13.55 to finish 15th. Sophomore Matthew Hauser (14th; 4:11.52) and junior Jack Vincent (15th; 4:12.83) both shaved seconds off their mile run times.
K-State will compete at Ahearn Field House next Friday (Feb. 17) in the Steve Miller Invitational.
