K-State Ends Regular Season at Home in Steve Miller Invitational

The Wildcats will compete at Ahearn Field House on Feb. 17
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's track and field teams will compete in Ahearn Field House one more time on Friday (Feb. 17) in the Steve Miller Invitational to finish out the indoor regular season before the Big 12 Indoor Championships on Feb. 24-25.

Three field events will start at 3 p.m. CT, including the women's weight throw and men's high jump and pole vault. The track events start at 3:45 p.m. CT with the women's distance medley relay (DMR).

K-State is coming off a strong effort at the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 10-11 in Fayetteville, Ark., as the Wildcats recorded 15 Top-10 finishes and 14 personal-best performances. Junior Hadley Splechter highlighted the weekend, as he broke the school record in the indoor men's mile run with a time of 4:02.07, eclipsing the previous time of 4:02.42 set by Jeff Schemmel in the NCAA Championships in 1976.

Multiple other Wildcats also competed with new personal bests, including junior Kade McCall in the men's weight throw at 21.16m/69-5.25. Sophomore Monique Hardy threw her best weight throw as a Wildcat at 21.72m/71-3.25. Twelve distance runners also recorded new personal best times in the 800 meters, mile run and 3000 meters.

In the USTFCCCA event squad rankings released on Monday (Feb. 13) the women's weight throw still holds the number four spot for the third straight week. The men's team remains fifth in the high jump for the second week in a row.

The Steve Miller Invitational is the last meet before the Big 12 Championships (Feb. 24-25) in Lubbock, Texas at the Sports Performance Center.
