MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State women's golf team is set for its next challenge of the spring season, the Westbrook Invitational, held Sunday and Monday in Peoria, Arizona, at the par-72, 6,248 l-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club.
"We are excited to play at Westbrook, it's a great event," said head coach Kristi Knight. "Playing with great energy and a great sense of belief is how we will succeed."
The five competing in the scoring lineup for K-State are Manon Donche-Gay, Haley Vargas, Napua Glossner, Gabriela McNelly, and Noa Van Beek.
The Wildcats are coming off a seventh-place finish in the FAU Paradise Invitational to begin the spring campaign. The performance saw six individual even or under-par rounds as the Cats carded a 9-over par 873, their lowest 54-hole total of the season.
Donche-Gay was the leader for K-State at the FAU Paradise Invitational with a career performance. The senior tied for eighth place and carded a 4-under par 212 that included three even or under-par rounds. It was the 54-hole lowest score of her career and the lowest score by a Wildcat since September 2020, which was also the last time a Wildcat shot three consecutive even or under-par rounds.
The team leader in stroke average at 73.27 is still Vargas, who will make her 30th career appearance this weekend. She is coming off a tie in 22nd place at 2-over par 218 in the spring opener.
Glossner will make her 11th straight scoring lineup appearance dating back to last season, while McNelly is set to make her spring debut and returns to the lineup after making three appearances in the fall.
Van Beek has been inserted in the lineup following a tie for 37th place at the spring opener where she competed as an individual. The freshman carded a career-best 6-over par 222.
Wisconsin is the host school for the event, with College of Charleston, Denver, Iowa, No. 49 Kansas, Minnesota, No. 48 Missouri, Nebraska, No. 26 Ohio State, No. 9 Oklahoma, Rutgers, Penn State, and UNLV joining K-State in the 14-team field.
The first two rounds of the 54-hole event are scheduled for Sunday, with the final round to be played Monday. Action will begin on both days at 9:30 a.m. (CT) via a shotgun start. Fans can follow along with live scoring on Golfstat.com.
