PEORIA, Ariz. - The Kansas State women's golf team — led by a top-15 individual finish from Noa Van Beek – carded a 2-under par 286 final round on Monday at the Westbrook Invitational to finish in 11th place at 9-over par 873.
The 54-hole score of 873 ties a season low, and Monday's round was the Cats' best 18 on the par-72, 6,248-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club, and the second-best of the season.
"The team is close. I'm proud of them for putting up an under-par round today in spite of some cold putters for the most part," said head coach Kristi Knight. "We have to keep striving to be a little better each day."
Van Beek tied for 11th place on the individual leaderboard at 3-under par 213 after closing out her career performance with an even-par 72 third round. It is the freshman's first career top-20 finish as well as her lowest 54-hole score.
The Oene, Netherlands product tallied 11 birdies over the course of the tournament to register the second-lowest score of any Wildcat this season. It was also the second instance of a Wildcat carding three consecutive even or under-par rounds.
"It was a solid performance by Noa," said Knight. "She hit a lot of good shots and demonstrated a great demeanor on the course no matter what she faced."
The two K-State seniors, Manon Donche-Gay and Haley Vargas, both tied for 39th place at 4-over par 220. Vargas shot a 2-over par 74 final round, while Donche-Gay fired a 2-under par 70 final round — adding to her team-leading total of now three under-par rounds this season — to make a 12-spot jump on the leaderboard.
Just a stroke back was Napua Glossner at 5-over par 221 and tied for 44th place. She also carded a 2-under par 70 final round, her second under-par round of the season.
Gabriela McNelly tied for 71st place at 13-over par 229 following a 5-over par 77 third round.
No. 49 Nebraska won the team title at 21-under par 843 behind an impressive 11-under par 277 final round. Alyson Bean of Denver and Caley McGinty of Ohio State shared the individual crown at 9-under par 207.
Kansas State will be back in action March 17-19 at the MountainView Collegiate, the first of three remaining regular season events before the Big 12 Championship commences April 21-23.
