K-State Falls to No. 16 Oklahoma, 4-0

The Wildcats played shorthanded again on Friday
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women's tennis team played shorthanded against nationally-ranked Oklahoma, losing 4-0, on Friday afternoon (April 14) at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.
The Wildcats (2-18, 0-8 Big 12) yielded forfeits at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles due to injury, as the 15th-ranked Sooners doubles tandem of Ivana and Carmen Corley earned the doubles point with a 6-1 victory before straight sets wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles clinched the match for No. 16 Oklahoma (17-8, 7-1 Big 12).
It was the fourth straight victory for the Sooners, who moved into a first-place tie with No. 10 Texas (17-4, 7-1 Big 12). The Longhorns host Baylor on Saturday morning.
The nationally-ranked duo of the Corley sisters earned a 6-1 victory over freshmen Vanesa Suarez and junior Manami Ukita at the No. 1 doubles position to earn the first point of the match. The duo of sophomore Florentine Dekkers and freshman Rozalia Gruszczynska were leading Oklahoma's Layne Sleeth and Alexandra Pisareva, 3-2, at the No. 2 position before the point was clinched.
Leading 2-0 with the doubles' points and the forfeit at No. 6 singles, the Sooners earned the win with straight victories by graduate Alexandra Pisareva over junior Aleen Quamar, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 4 position and freshman Julia Garcia Ruiz over Gruszczynska, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 5 position.
Oklahoma was also leading in other singles' matches when the victory was secured, including 6-3, 4-1 by nationally-ranked Sleeth at No. 1 over Dekkers, 7-6 (9-7) by Carmen Corley at No. 2 over Suarez and 6-2, 5-1 by junior Dana Guzman at No. 3 over Ukita.
K-State will conclude its home schedule at noon on Sunday (April 16) with a match against No. 18 Oklahoma State (13-6, 6-2 Big 12) at the Mike Goss Tennis Stadium. The Cowgirls earned a 4-0 win over Kansas on Friday.
