ARDMORE, Okla. - The Kansas State women's golf team carded a 27-over par 307 on Sunday to conclude play at The Bruzzy held at the par-70, 5,976-yard Dornick Hills Golf and Country Club.
The Wildcats finished the 54-hole event in eighth place at 53-over par 893, but they were able to score a victory over No. 35 TCU, which finished one shot behind K-State.
Senior Haley Vargas, who held the individual lead heading into the final round, failed to get going in the final 18 as she tied for 13th at 7-over par 217 after carding a 9-over par 79 in the final round.
"I am heartbroken for Haley and the entire team," head coach Kristi Knight said. "We did not handle conditions well today as our misses were costly, resulting in penalty shots. We have to take ownership of this and let it be a great opportunity to learn and be better."
Manon Donche-Gay and Noa Van Beek each shot a 6-over par 76 on Sunday. Donche-Gay concluded the event at 12-over par 222 to tie for 31st, while Van Beek was one shot back and in a tie for 36th.
Gabriela McNelly turned in her second-straight score of 7-over par 77 as she tied for 74th with a 54-hole score of 25-over par 235. Kate Tilma carded an 8-over par 78 in the final round to finish the event in 81st place at 31-over par 241.
Competing as an individual, Napua Glossner tied for 71st with a 54-hole score of 24-over par 234 after a final-round tally of 10-over par 80.
Host school and No. 42 North Texas won the event at 16-over par 856, edging No. 39 Tulsa by two shots. Tulsa's Lilly Thomas took home the individual crown with a score of 2-under par 208 as she was the only player under par for the event.
Next up for the Wildcats is a new tournament, the Big 12 Match Play, which will be held Friday through Sunday at Kierland Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. It will be the final outing for the Wildcats before the 2023 Big 12 Championship, which is April 21-23, as Dallas Athletic Club in Dallas, Texas.
