Bacianskaite Finishes Second in Heptathlon, Uhlin Takes Third in Decathlon

K-State next competes in the Mt SAC Relays April 15-16 in Walnut, Calif.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's track and field teams finished competition on Friday (April 7) in the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon during the Jim Click Combined Events in Tucson, Ariz., at Drachman Stadium.
Junior Urte Bacianskaite finished second in the women's heptathlon with a new personal-best score of 5,691 points, while junior Maddie Righter completed her first heptathlon with a seventh place finish of 5,067 points. Sophomore Emil Uhlin came in third place in the men's decathlon with 7,440 points.
Improving 27 points from her previous heptathlon best, Bacianskaite finished 114 points behind winner Bailey Golden of Oklahoma State at 5,805 points. Her best marks of the day came from the long jump, when she finished second with a new personal best of 6.03m/19-9.50, 1.5 inches better than her previous she set at the Emporia State Relays on March 24-25. She also landed in the top-5 in the two remaining events, taking third in the javelin at 40.81m/133-10 and fifth in the 800 meter run with a new personal-best time of 2:22.30.
Uhlin was 147 points shy of his decathlon personal best but finished in the top-3 in all five events today, including winning the discus with a throw of 37.25m/122-2. He ran a new 110 meter hurdles personal best in 14.93 seconds, finishing third. He then tied for second in the pole vault with a height of 4.70m/15-5, also taking second in the javelin throw at 52.68m/172-10. Lastly, in the 1,500 meters, he claimed second place again with a time of 4:35.16.
During Righter's final three events of her first heptathlon, she achieved a new personal best in the 800 meters with a time of 2:44.98. She finished in the top-5 in the javelin with a throw of 36.91m/121-1 and took seventh place in the long jump with a distance of 5.58m/18-3.75.
Sophomore Madelyn McCabe competed in the long jump, finishing 13th with a jump of 5.13m/16-10, but was unable to compete in the last two events, leaving without a final score.
K-State alumna Tejaswin Shankar also finished competition in the men's decathlon, taking second place with 7,648 points.
The Wildcats will compete next in the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., on Thursday (April 13) through Saturday (April 15) at the Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
