K-State to Host Ward Haylett Invitational to End Regular Season

Field events start at 10 a.m., track events at 10:25 a.m.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's track and field teams will host the Ward Haylett Invitational on Saturday (May 6) at the R.V. Christian Track to end the regular season. Admission is free to the public.
The field events start at 10 a.m., CT, with the women's high jump, discus and men's shot put. The track events kick off at 10:25 a.m., CT with the men's 5,000 meters. A senior ceremony will be held at 12:15 p.m., CT.
K-State will face teams from Arkansas State, Kansas, Nebraska and Haskell Indian Nations.
The Wildcats are coming off a strong performance at the Rock Chalk Classic on April 29 in Lawrence, Kan., as the team totaled 22 top-5 finishes, including a first-place finish by Emma Robbins in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 64.76m/212-5.
Five others placed second, including a season-best mark by sophomore Marcus Gelpi in the men's high jump to finish as the runner-up with a height of 2.12m/6-11.5. Other impressive days included junior Kade McCall breaking his own school record in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 67.98m/223-0 to place fourth and freshman Tamaiah Koonce earning a significant new personal best in the women's discus with a toss of 54.12m/177-7.
In Big 12 rankings, Robbins still sits at No. 1 in the women's hammer throw by a margin of almost 8 feet (3 meters) from No. 2 Oklahoma's Kassidy Gallagher, while McCall is No. 3 among the men, more than 17 feet (5 meters) ahead of the No. 4 spot. In the women's discus Koonce ranks No. 6, which is the highest among freshmen, while Gelpi is No. 7 in the men's high jump.
