
Cross Country Starts 2023 Season on September 2

Wildcats will start the season with the Bobs Timmons Classic in Lawrence, Kan.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's cross country teams announced its 2023 schedule on Wednesday (August 2), as the Wildcats will kick off the season at the Bob Timmons Classic on Saturday, Sept. 2 for the second year in a row in Lawrence, Kan., at Rim Rock Farm followed by three more regular season meets.
The second meet of the season will take the Wildcats to Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Sept. 16 to compete in the John McNichols Invite for the first time. Next the teams will run in the Gans Creek Classic for the first time since 2021 on Friday, Sept. 29 in Columbia, Mo., before wrapping up the regular season at the Pre-National meet, the Panorama Farms Classic, in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday, Oct. 14.
The postseason will start with the Big 12 Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Ames, Iowa, hosted by Iowa State for the first time since 2018. The Wildcats will then compete in the NCAA Midwest Regionals in Stillwater, Okla., at the OSU Cross Country Course on Friday, Nov. 10. The season wraps up with the NCAA Championship back in Charlottesville on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Panorama Farms.
Last season the women's team started off strong with consecutive first place finishes, K-State sweeping both team wins during the Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational.
During the 2022 Big 12 Championship the men's team finished fourth for the second straight year, before placing 11th at the NCAA Midwest Regional for consecutive years. The women's team recorded a seventh-place finish at the Big 12 Championship before placing 18th at the Midwest Regional.
The women's team will bring back the entirety of its roster, highlighted by the top-4 runners with individual top-50 6k finishes at the Big 12 Championship by seniors Hannah Stewart (23rd; 21:52.4), Cailan Steward (41st; 22:29.5), sophomore Cecilia Fisher (42nd; 22:31.3) and senior Sydney Burton (43rd; 22:36.9).
The men's team lost their top-2 runners in Stephen Kielhofner and Hadley Splechter but will return several veteran runners from the Big 12 Championship in senior Kerby Depenbusch (40th; 25:49.2) and juniors Kyle Johnston (39th; 25:46.3), Tommy Hazen (47th; 26:12.3), Jack Vincent (58th; 26:38.6) and Alex Gutierrez (63rd; 26:55.1).
