
K-State Opens Spring Season Hosting Drake

The first match will be at Body First Tennis Center on Saturday at 1 p.m.
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team will kick off the spring season in Manhattan on Saturday (Jan. 20) against Drake at 1 p.m. CT at Body First Tennis Center.
This will be the Wildcats' third meeting against the Bulldogs—all in Manhattan—the last contest in 2021, where the team was victorious 7-0.
The Big 12 Conference announced the preseason poll on Jan. 4, with K-State landing at no. 10 with 64 points. Oklahoma State was projected as no. 1 with 161 points and 8 first place votes, with Texas right behind at no. 2 with 160 points and 4 first place votes.
The four new conference members were scattered in the rankings, with UCF (no. 4; 126 points), BYU (no. 9; 66 points), Cincinnati (no. 13; 32 points) and Houston (no. 14; 27 points).
At the conclusion of the fall season, sophomore Vanesa Suarez was listed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) final fall rankings at no. 80 in singles competition. She went 4-4 in singles with a victory over a ranked opponent during the Big 12 Fall Invitational.
During the fall the team saw lots of success, including freshmen Charlotte Keitel (13-3) and Tereza Polakova (10-6) collecting double digit singles wins and Co-Champions at the TCU Invitational. Keitel earned another singles champion in the white draw at the Big 12 Fall Invite.
In doubles competition junior Veronika Kulhava and Polakova collected a 6-2 record including TCU Invitational Doubles Champions. Senior Manami Ukita and Suarez accepted invitations to the ITA All-Americans in Cary and finished the fall with a 5-4 record.
