K-State Set for Quick Turnaround in Colorado

Oct 03, 2024 | Women's Golf

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Following three days of play earlier this week in Arkansas, the Kansas State women's golf team traveled straight to Highlands Ranch, Colorado, as the Wildcats will compete in the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, Friday through Sunday, at the par-72, 6,611-yard Highlands Ranch Golf Club.

K-State is coming off a fifth-place finish in an ultra-competitive field at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational this past Monday through Wednesday. The Wildcats concluded the event with a 54-hole score of 45-over par 909, finishing 11 shots ahead of a sixth-place tie between Ohio State and Kent State.

K-State will be joined in the 15-team field at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate by Colorado, Colorado State, host-school Denver, Hawai'i, Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, New Mexico, San Diego State, Texas State, Tulane, UNLV, Wichita State, Wyoming and Xavier.

K-State's scoring lineup in Highlands Ranch will be the same as earlier in the week in Arkansas, and the group is headlined by senior Carla Bernat, who holds a 70.50 scoring average through three events with two top-five finishes and another in the top 20. She led the Wildcats during the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, carded a three-round score of even-par 216 to tie for fourth place. It was the eighth top-five finish during her time as a Wildcat, which is tied for third place in school history. During the season-opening Powercat Invitational, the Tulane transfer registered her third win at K-State, the third most in program history.

Bernat is joined in this weekend's scoring lineup by senior Sophie Bert, junior Noa van Beek, sophomore Alenka Navarro and freshman Nanami Nakashima.

Bert began play in Arkansas with two-straight rounds of 86 but bounced back with a 1-over par 73 during Wednesday's final round as she looks to carry the momentum into the mountains.

van Beek saw her career rounds move past 50 this past week in Arkansas, making her eligible for the school's career top-10 list in scoring average as she is now fourth at 74.76. Navarro ranks second on the team with a 74.13 scoring average this season, while Nakashima is fourth at 74.63.

Kansas State starts play at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate on Friday morning beginning at 10:10 a.m. (MT) off hole No. 1. Live results of the event can be found on Birdiefire.
