MANHATTAN, Kan. – For the fourth time in her career, Aliyah Carter was named to the Division I All-Region First Team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), as the organization announced its regional teams Tuesday.
Carter, a native of Dubuque, Iowa, becomes the first student-athlete in K-State history to earn all-region recognition four times in a career, while it marks her first time named to the Central Region.
Carter's selection adds to her impressive career resume where the outside hitter earned AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors last season and garnered the 2020 Big 12 Freshman of the Year and 2020 Midwest Region Freshman of the Year titles.
The seven-time Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week finished the regular-season second in the conference in six offensive categories, including total kills (455) and kills per set (4.38). Carter was one of only nine players from Power 4 programs to compile over 450 kills this season.
On October 27, the Wildcats rally-scoring era career kills leader became the seventh player in school history to tally 30 or more kills in a match, following her 32-kill performance at Iowa State. She finished the match with a career-high 36.0 points, which is fourth-most all-time in K-State history, while her 87 attacks against the Cyclones set a five-set match program record (rally-scoring era). She was one of only four Big 12 student-athletes this season to achieve a 30-kill match.
She ended her career with a program-record 12 conference weekly awards and first in the rally-scoring era with an average of 3.92 kills per set. Overall, Carter finished second all-time in total kills (1,839), total points (2,040.5) and in career matches with 20 or more kills (26). Her 469 career sets played ties first all-time in K-State history alongside former teammate Loren Hinkle.
As a result of earning all-region first team accolades, Carter is now in consideration for All-America honors. Those will be announced by the AVCA on December 18. Carter is one of 14 student-athletes named to this year's All-Central Region First Team while eight other athletes received honorable mention.
A total of 26 Wildcats have garnered 41 all-region honors in program history, including four selections under head coach Jason Mansfield.
