MANHATTAN, Kan. – For the second time in program history, K-State volleyball placed four student-athletes on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, announced by the organization Tuesday.
Setter Izzi Szulczewski, middle blocker Brenna Schmidt, and libero and defensive specialists Ella Larkin and Symone Sims each picked up their first career Academic All-District honor at K-State, after maintaining a cumulative GPA over 3.5.
K-State was one of eight Big 12 teams with three or more honorees, while it is the second time in program history four Wildcats were placed on the Academic All-District Teams.
A product of Maize, Kansas, Larkin spearheaded a defense that led the Big 12 in total digs (1,776) and digs per set (16.75) during the regular season. The senior libero and defensive specialist led K-State and was third in the league in both categories, while her 492 digs this year is 10th-best all-time in the single-season records.
In her second season in a Wildcat uniform, Szulczewski was the only player to start in all 27 matches this season. The 5-foot-7 setter from Beaverton, Oregon, racked up over 1,000 assists to go with 64 kills, 42 blocks, 18 service aces and 260 digs – the second highest on the team. Szulczewski finished her career seventh in school history with 1,795 total assists during the rally-scoring era.
Schmidt, a middle blocker from Eagle, Nebraska, set career-highs in total kills (112) and blocks (104) for the Wildcats in 2024, accumulating a conference eighth-best 1.04 blocks per set. The junior became the first Wildcat to produce a match with 10 or more blocks since 2022, as she totaled a career-high 11 blocks in a five-set victory over Iowa State on October 5.
A libero and defensive specialist from Frisco, Texas, Sims appeared in all 27 matches, tallying 259 digs for 2.47 digs per set. The sophomore reached double-digit digs in 13 matches this season, that included a career-high 17 digs against Iowa State on October 27.
K-State concluded its second season of action under head coach Jason Mansfield eighth in the Big 12 standings with an 8-10 league record and 10-17 overall.
