Wildcats Improve to 5-2 Record With 4-0 Win Over Indiana

The Wildcats will return to Manhattan, Kan. on Saturday, Feb. 17 to face Fordham
TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The K-State women's tennis team defeated Indiana 4-0 on Saturday morning (Feb. 10) in the first meeting between the two programs in a neutral site match at the Alabama Tennis Facility.
K-State (5-2) won the doubles point, the first since facing South Dakota on Jan. 28, and Indiana (4-4) could not keep up, falling in the first three singles matches.
Junior Veronika Kulhava and freshman Tereza Polakova claimed the first doubles win of the day. They defeated Saby Nihalani and Lene Mari Hovda 6-2 in the no. 1 spot. It is their first doubles win since facing Wichita State on Jan. 26.
Freshman Charlotte Keitel and sophomore Vanesa Suarez were defeated in the no. 2 position, losing 6-3 to Li Hsin Lin and Lara Schneider.
With freshman Maralgoo Chogsomjav and senior Manami Ukita as the tiebreaker match, they came out on top in a high scoring 7-5 decision against Sarah L'allier and Elisabeth Dunac in the no. 3 position.
Keitel and Chogsomjav secured the first two wins for the Wildcats, both with consecutive wins. Keitel claimed the first win, sweeping Dunac 6-2, 6-3 in the no. 4 spot. Chogsomjav was also victorious in straight sets, with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Hovda in the no. 5 position.
Number 92 ranked Suarez clinched the win for the 'Cats, defeating Schneider in the no. 1 spot, 6-4, 6-3. The win extends Suarez' win streak to three.
The three remaining Wildcats went unfinished in their matches-- Ukita was battling back in the third set against Nicole Teodosescu, securing a second set win in the no. 2 position before ending the match at 3-6, 6-3, 1-2.
Kulhava had just finished her second set in the no. 3 spot versus Nihalani, where the scores were tied 6-3, 3-6. Polakova had encountered a tiebreaker in the first set against Lin where she was victorious, 7-6 (7-3), but she did not finish the second set, the score 3-5 in her first unfinished match of the spring.
K-State will return to Manhattan, Kan. for a home match on Saturday (Feb. 17) at 1 p.m. CT versus Fordham (1-2) at Body First Tennis Center.
