MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State volleyball named six student-athletes to the 2023 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, including a 4.0 grade-point average from Mackenzie Morris, as the league office released its annual Academic All-Big 12 Teams Wednesday.
Morris, a senior majoring in accounting, was one of 13 volleyball student-athletes to boast a 4.0 grade-point average as she received her fourth Academic All-Big 12 honor.
Joining Morris with first-team accolades were seniors Kadye Fernholz and Loren Hinkle, junior Molly Ramsey, and sophomores Ava LeGrand and Brenna Schmidt.
Hinkle collected her fourth consecutive first-team nod while Fernholz earned her third and Ramsey her second. LeGrand and Schmidt joined the quad with their first-team accolades, the first of their careers.
Since 2015, 69 Wildcats have received Academic All-Big 12 accolades with 62 being named to the first team.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. There were 798 Big 12 athletes honored on the First Team, with 112 of those posting 4.0 grade point averages. An additional 158 student-athletes earned Second Team distinction.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Wildcats concluded their 2023 campaign 16-11 and 10-8 in Big 12 action under first-year head coach Jason Mansfield, including a program-record five Top 25 ranked victories.
