Morris Earns Second Big 12 Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State's Mackenzie Morris continues to add to her historic resume, as the senior libero was named the 2023 Big 12 Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year in an announcement by the league office on Thursday.
A product of Dallas, Texas, Morris became the first player in Big 12 volleyball history to earn the academic award twice, after earning the merit last season. Morris is just one two players in program history to earn the distinction alongside libero Kersten Kober who received the honor 2015.
Morris adds the Big 12 Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor to several other awards this season. She was named Academic All-Big 12 for the fourth time in her career. Additionally, Morris secured AVCA First Team All-Region recognition and a spot on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. Morris was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week twice, bringing her career total to five.
The libero, an accounting major, was one of 13 volleyball student-athletes to boast a 4.0 grade-point average. The honor marked the libero's third straight Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection.
Morris played in all 27 matches on the court and was one of three players to see time in all 97 sets this season. She led the Wildcats with 468 digs during the season while her average of 4.82 per set finished first across Division I Power 5 programs. Morris finished with a career-best 107 assists.
She collected double-digit digs in 25 of 27 matches. Morris added 22 total aces, collecting a season-best three aces against Texas Tech (Nov. 18).
Morris finished third all-time in the rally-scoring era with 1,733 total digs, while she is just second to Angie Lastra (2004-07) in 20-dig matches with 28. Additionally, she is just the 22nd player in program history to boast 100 career aces (103).
K-State finished 16-11 overall and 10-8 in Big 12 action in its first season under first-year head coach Jason Mansfield. The Wildcats registered a program record five Top 25 victories, including a historic straight-set victory over national champion Texas at Morgan Family Arena.
