K-State Set to Take Part in The Prestige

Feb 16, 2024 | Men's Golf

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men's golf team continues the early portion of its spring season by traveling to The Western Home of Golf, as the Wildcats take part in one of the top men's college golf events in the country – The Prestige – held Monday through Wednesday at The Norman Course at PGA WEST in La Quinta, California.

"The Prestige is known as one of the best tournaments in the country," head coach Grant Robbins said. "The Norman Course at PGA WEST can be very challenging, and this is one of the best fields we will play in all year. There were a lot of positives from last week in Alabama, and this a great opportunity for us to see how we stack up against some of the nation's best teams."

The 24-team field at The Prestige includes 14 programs ranked in the top 60 of the latest NCAA Rankings, including five top-25 teams in No. 5 Washington, No. 19 Texas Tech, No. 22 Oregon, No. 24 Chattanooga and No. 25 Duke. The rest of the field includes No. 28 Baylor, Cal Poly, Colorado State, Iowa State, Kansas, No. 48 Louisville, No. 42 Loyola Marymount, Nevada, No. 39 Northwestern, No. 53 Oregon State, Princeton, San Diego, No. 56 San Francisco, No. 38 SMU, Stanford, UC Davis, No. 34 UCLA and No. 58 Washington State. This is the largest field the Wildcats have been a part of since the Desert Intercollegiate in February 2015.

K-State will utilize the lineup of juniors Cooper Schultz and Nicklaus Mason, senior Luke O'Neill, junior JP Roller and sophomore Alex Lindstrom. This is the same lineup the Wildcats used at last week's Hal Williams Collegiate in Mobile, Alabama, when they finished in fifth place out of 14 teams at 2-under par 850. In addition to the five in the scoring lineup, junior Ian McCrary will compete in a separate 61-man individual tournament held at The Golf Club at Terra Lago.

The Cats were led last week by O'Neill, who tied for 17th place at 2-under par 211. A native of Connemara, Ireland, O'Neill leads the team with a 70.83 stroke average and is followed closely by Schultz at 70.92 and Mason at 71.42. This trio has combined for nine top-20 finishes, four top-10 showings and a pair of top-five finishes.

The Prestige will begin with tee times off Nos. 1 and 10 at 6:45 a.m. and 10 a.m. (PT) each day. Live scoring can be followed at by clicking here.
