K-State Men’s 4x400 Relay Shatters K-State Indoor School Record

The Wildcats will compete next weekend in Fayetteville, Ark.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State track and field team competed in the final day of the DeLoss Dodds Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 3) at the K-State Indoor Track & Field Complex, ending the day with a record breaking men's 4x400 relay.
Seniors Eugene Omalla, Kyle Gale, Jaimie Omalla and freshman Tavon Underwood won the men's 4x400 with a time of 3:04.84, beating the previous time of 3:09.89 in 1989. Their time is currently no. 1 in the Big 12 Conference and no. 3 among the NCAA, behind only Florida and Arkansas.
At the Texas Tech Corky Classic on January 19-20, they finished runner-up with an altitude converted time of 3:06.16 (3:05.72).
Two high jumpers finished runner up to Big 12 leading Texas Tech athletes-- sophomore Sharie Enoe (1.85m/6-0.75) in the women's and senior Devon Richardson (2.15m/7-0.75) in the men's. Enoe finished behind Tech's Temitope Adeshina, who currently leads the NCAA at 1.96m/6-5. Richardson was short of Omamuyovwi Erhire, who is no. 2 in conference standings.
Distance runners, junior Tommy Hazen and freshman Josphine Wanjiku won the men's and women's 3000 meters—Hazen with a new personal best of 8:19.22 and Wanjiku in her first attempt with a time of 9:42.64. Also competing in the women's race was sophomore Cecilia Fisher (3rd; 9:55.15) in the top-three and sophomore Katie Schwartzkopf (10th; 10:39.75) in her first attempt.
Competing in the women's mile was senior Hannah Stewart (2nd; 4:48.89), sophomore Grace Meyer (6th; 4:58.21) and senior Cailan Steward (7th; 5:05.83) -- Meyer and Steward with new personal bests. Junior Matthew Hauser (4th; 4:11.03) ran in the men's race with his new fastest time.
Three K-State women earned all six attempts in the shot put, junior Grace Thompson (4th; 15.62m/51-3) landing in the top-five. In a field of 12 competitors, junior Daisy Monie (6th; 15.40m/5-6.25) and senior Jaycee Schroeder (7th; 15.01m/49-3) held their own. Sophomore transfer Nate Collier (4th; 15.88m/52-1.25) competed on the men's side in his first K-State home meet.
K-State will travel next weekend to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Tyson Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 9-10) at Randal Tyson Track.
