
McCall Breaks Weight Throw School Record in DeLoss Dodds Day One

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State track and field team competed on Friday (Feb. 2) in the first day of the DeLoss Dodds Invitational at the new K-State Indoor Track & Field Complex, highlighted by a new men's weight throw school record from senior Kade McCall.
In his sixth and final throw of the day, McCall won the event and threw his third personal best this season at 21.72m/71-3-- over a foot further than his previous, and almost two inches better than the previous record set at the same meet in 2018 by Mitch Dixon.
The 'Cats won the women's weight throw as well— junior Monique Hardy with a distance of 21.35m/70-1 for her fourth straight meet win. There were two personal bests in the women's event, senior Charlotte Cattermole-Williams (4th; 18.07m/59-3) and sophomore Tamaiah Koonce (7th; 16.83m/55-3). Also competing in the men's section was freshman Riley Marx (9th; 14.71m/48-3) with a new throw, 4 inches better than his previous.
Sophomore Emil Uhlin started the day off for the Wildcats, as he finished competition in the men's heptathlon. He earned a runner-up score of 5,595 points, 183 points behind the winner, Edgar Campre from Miami (Fla.) with 5,778 points. Uhlin finished top-three in the remaining three events, winning the pole vault (5.00m/16-4.75) and the 1000 meters (2:46.58) and 3rd in the 60 meter hurdles (8.54).
Five Wildcats ran in the 1000 meters, three of them running new personal bests—sophomore Grace Meyer (5th; 2:55.15) and junior Jessica Caraway (6th; 2:55.59) for the women, junior Alex Gutierrez (1st; 2:27.02) for the men and senior Cailan Steward (9th; 3:00.60) for the first time in her career.
Three women competed in the final round of the 60 meter hurdles, sophomore Jourdin Edwards (4th; 8.52), senior Urte Bacianskaite (5th; 8.81) and sophomore Delaney Wright (6th; 8.84) with a new personal best by two-tenths of a second.
Two freshmen ran in the men's 600 yards-- Tavon Underwood (3rd; 1:09.32) in his first attempt and Nen Matlock (6th; 1:09.48) shaving 3 seconds off his previous time.
A group of K-State sprinters ran in the 400 meters. For the women, sophomore Twaneise Johnson (2nd; 55.36) and junior Ludivine Aubert (5th; 56.06) both with new faster times. In the men's section, senior Kyle Gale finished runner up (46.15) and senior Eugene Omalla (46.30) in third place in a field of 12 runners. Freshman Tyrique Lewis (10th; 49.62) ran in the event for the first time.
Day two of the DeLoss Dodds Invitational will finish up on Saturday (Feb. 3) starting at 10 a.m. CT with three field events, the track events starting at 11:30 a.m. with the A'Keyla Mitchell women's 200 meter dash.
