Wildcats Show Strong Performances in Day One in Fayetteville

Day two events start at 10:30 a.m. in Fayetteville
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The K-State track and field teams competed on Friday (Feb. 9) in the first day of the Tyson Invitational at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track.
Multiple Wildcats saw top-10 finishes in field events, highlighted by senior Monique Hardy, also recording personal bests on the track.
Hardy won the women's weight throw in her fifth straight meet with a distance of 21.32m/69-11.50. Senior Jasmine Greer (8th; 18.49m/60-8) landed in the top-10, while sophomore Tamaiah Koonce (13th; 17.02m/55-10.25) competed with her farthest throw by eight inches.
In the men's weight throw, senior Kade McCall also finished top-five with a throw of 21.54m/70-8, just five inches short of his school record distance he set last weekend.
Both long jumpers—senior Shalom Olotu and sophomore Jhavor Bennett—landed in the top-five for their best performances of the season. Olotu finished 3rd in the women's event with a jump of 6.20m/20-4.25. Bennett landed with a jump of 7.25m/23-9.50, less than a foot from his best.
Distance runners had a strong showing, recording multiple personal bests in the 3,000 meters. In the women's run, senior Hannah Stewart (3rd; 9:28.66) and freshman Josphine Wanjiku (5th; 9:29.53) landed in the top-five, both shaving more than 10 seconds off their time.
Other bests came from sophomore Cecilia Fisher (15th; 9:50.67) and senior Cailan Steward (23rd; 10:07.10), along with junior Tommy Hazen (9th; 8:13.31) in the men's top-10.
Multiple sprinters recorded their new fastest times in the 400 meter dash. In the women's race was sophomore Twaneise Johnson (19th; 55.01), finishing in the top-20, and junior Ludivine Aubert (32nd; 55.89).
In the men's race, freshman Nen Matlock (22nd; 47.174), competed in his first attempt, and freshman Tavon Underwood (27th; 47.40).
Day two of the Tyson Invitational begins at 10:30 a.m. CT with the women's pole vault, the women's 800 meters starting on the track at 12:30 p.m.
